Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 50

Chapter 50

Hades POV

Hunters. I hated them with my entire being. Self-righteous assholes who believed shifters didn’t deserve to live in this world. They didn’t discriminate. Women, men, children, they killed them all without so much as blinking. They were ruthless. They showed no mercy to anyone with shifter blood, not even those who had no wolves. This meant that Raven was also in danger. I reacted instantly, taking off into the woods, seeking out the source of the arrows whizzing past as Jackson and I zig-zagged narrowly missing them, hitting us. We were experienced with hunters and any dirty tricks they might use in order to kill us. I doubted Aeress or Raven had the same and wanted the two of them to stay together and defend one another until Jackson and I could get back.

There. Two hunters. Both spread out, both with arrows, and looking too smug for my liking. They were about to get a valuable lesson in what happened when you attacked an Alpha. I was bloodthirsty, ready to rip them apart with my claws. Lucifer was hankering for a fight, riled up and also just as angry if not even more angry, than I was. Jackson veered off to take the second one. I raced directly towards the other. He brought his bow up and fired. It missed me by inches. I was close now. He dropped the bow and grabbed a knife from his pocket, brandishing it at me. I snarled, circling him warily. His teeth glinted in the sunlight, his face wreathed in a large smile. I lunged, and he rolled to the side, instantly standing again and throwing the dagger towards me. It grazed the side of me as I growled in anger. He grabbed another knife from his other pocket. How many did he have? I bolted towards him and jumped, landing directly on him. He wrestled and then shoved the knife into my side as I howled. I felt anger rising inside of me. I clamped my jaws down on his arm, preventing him from removing the knife. I bit him, hard, blood trickling down his arm. He grunted, shoving at my head and kicking. I ignored it. My wolf was blood thirsty now. He wanted revenge. He wanted to hurt this hunter and toy with it. He was about to get even more brutal and the hunter could see it coming, his eyes widening in fear. My wolf gave a devilish grin, studying the man, and then took action.

He tore the hunter’s arm off, satisfaction flooding through us as he screamed. I took back control and flung it away, watching blood pool around him as he clutched at his stump. He backed away, breathing heavily. It wasn’t enough. Not nearly enough. Lucifer was barely controllable right now. I narrowed my eyes, keeping an eye on the hunter, knowing that he would be easy pickings now. Without his arm, he couldn’t keep shooting arrows, which meant he would have to rely on his combat skills. He was weak and hardly a threat anymore.

Not so fucking arrogant now, either is he I thought darkly. He was grinning, though, which gave me pause. I heard the sound of an arrow cocking and tensed, my head slowly turning. Another hunter. It had snuck up on me while I’d been fighting. It began to release the string and I could see that I would have very little time to dodge. It was bound to hit me at this distance. Another wolf barrelled into the third hunter, sending him flying. Aeress. She was supposed to have stayed with Raven. I felt slightly panicked now as I realized Raven was alone with only the driver for protection. Then again, Aeress had just saved my life. I turned my head back around as the hunter pulled out the knife from the ground he had thrown earlier. Even with only one arm, he was determined to kill me. Stubborn jackass. It was admirable, though, even though it was also futile. He should have run when he had the chance.

“Evil spawn,” he shouted, “monster. Insult to humanity,” he vented. “You should never have been born.

I’m only doing what is right! You are a threat to all humans, your very existence a sin in the eyes of god!”
