Chapter 72

Third Person POV

His father’s hand shook as he held onto the glass of bourbon, his eyes red-rimmed and bloodshot. There was a faraway look in his eyes, and his body was reverberating with undisguised anger. Damien had never seen him like this. He could feel the anger that rose inside his father, the undisguised fury, the control that was almost snapping like a thread. It was unnerving.

“21 years,” he whispered as Damien sat down opposite him, “21 years I’ve been searching and hoping.”

21 long years of having his hope rekindled only to be extinguished everytime their efforts came to naught. Finally, it was over,r but it was bittersweet. If only they had managed to find her sooner, then Raven might not have suffered as she had. He blamed himself.

“I know,” Damien’s voice was hard, “but we found her father. Raven will never be alone again,” he promised him, his own face an expression of bitterness.

They had lost 21 years but gained a whole future with her. Surely that was worth something, worth celebrating? The pain might never fade, but slowly it would fade in time. Finding Raven and acting on his instincts had made all of this possible. He dreaded to think what would have happened if he’d listened to his father and decided not to get the DNA test. His father’s daughter and his sister would have been right under their nose and they would never have known it. Thank god he’d listened to his gut this time, even if

he’d defied his father’s wishes.

“I want to tear MaryAnne Sinclair into pieces. I want to tear her limb from limb. I want to destroy her for what she’s done. I was so stupid, not realizing that she’d taken my daughter. Of course, she had, she hated us so much, me and Grace,” his father exhaled, still miserable.

“You had no proof, and by all accounts, all the medical records and birth certificates indicated she gave birth to twins. She put a lot of thought into this father. She knew you would suspect her. She damn well knew what she was doing.”

She and her mate, although that man was dead now. Damien suspected she’d killed him, but there was no way to prove it for certain. It was certainly suspicious, though.
