She couldn’t hide her delight. Her voice softened in an instant. “Easton-”

“Where’s Nicolas right now?” Easton’s voice was low, carrying a chilling edge.

Stella’s heart jumped as she caught the chilly edge in Easton’s voice. She wondered, Why’s he suddenly asking about Nicolas? Did he figure something out?

‘That can’t be. Not so fast. I already told Minnie to send someone to cover it up. Even the police haven’t gotten wind of anything yet. How could Easton possibly be onto it?’

Feigning complete ignorance, Stella said, “Nicolas? I don’t know. Did something happen?”

Easton didn’t waste any time. “Stella, I’m only going to say this once. If you get hold of Nicolas, tell him if he tries anything with Sophia, I’ll make him pay.”

With that, he hung up before Stella could get a word in.

“Mr. Foster, our men on the ground say they’ve lost track of Nicolas since early this morning. It’s like he sensed something, and there’s no one left at his villa,” Gordon reported as he hung up.

Easton’s face darkened, the air inside the car growing bleak and suffocating.

“Call Charles and tell him to contact Mr. Lowe,” Easton ordered.

“Yes, sir,” Gordon answered.

After Easton hung up, Stella was shaking with rage.

She thought, ‘Nicolas that bastard. He’s just thinking with what’s between his legs! He hasn’t even sorted out the Emily mess, and now he goes and kidnaps Sophia? Is he insane?’

But what made her even angrier was that Easton actually called her just for Sophia, and dropped a threat like it was nothing.

She thought, ‘Sophia, you’ve got some serious game. In such a short time, you’ve managed to get Easton all worked up over you!’

Stella snapped out of her thoughts and called Nicolas, her voice icy. “Did you kidnap Sophia?”

Nicolas was at a private club in the suburbs. He just got out of the shower when Stella’s call came through.

He let out a mocking laugh. “Word travels fast, huh?”

His tone was cocky, like he couldn’t care less if anyone came looking for him.

Stella said, “Easton just called me. Looks like they already caught wind of what you did. I’m warning you, if you don’t want Easton coming down on you, let Sophia go and get out of Jenston. Otherwise…”

“Otherwise what?” Nicolas cut in, his tone bristling with impatience.

Stella hesitated just a beat, and then her voice dropped even colder. “Otherwise, go the ruthless route. Make sure they never lay eyes on Sophia again. Ever.”

Once she hung up, her eyes flashed with a chilling gleam.

Stella thought, ‘This is a perfect chance to kill two birds with one stone-not only can I get rid of Sophia, but I can take my so-called brother Nicolas out of the picture, too.

That means, when the time comes, there’ll be one less person in my way for Weston Group’s assets. What a stroke of luck-the opportunity to let someone else do my dirty work for me came at just the right moment Sophia blinked her eyes open, still groggy. She glanced around, but everything looked unfamiliar.

She thought, ‘Where am I?’

She forced herself to wake up, trying to piece things together. She remembered standing outside Emily’s apartment building, waiting for Ryan to bring May and Emily down.

Then, out of nowhere, someone pressed a wet cloth over her nose and mouth, and everything went black

“Well, you’re up quicker than I expected. That’s perfect. Now I’ve got even more reason to enjoy this,” a man’s voice rang out, laced with creepy laughter.

Sophia flinched at the sound, nerves rattling as she tried to push herself upright. Her eyes darted toward the couch, where Nicolas sat smirking at her from just a few steps away.

She thought, ‘Damn it, it’s Nicolas. He kidnapped me!’
