May was startled as well, quickly reminding herself that Easton probably hadn’t seen Lucas yet.

Seeing him holding Stella’s kid, May was pissed. Without saying anything to him, she got in the car, ready to

leave.

Sophia had been buried in her emails the whole time, so she missed the whole scene. She noticed May getting into the car, clearly annoyed, and staying silent the entire ride.

Sophia put her phone down and glanced over at her. “May, did Lucas upset you?”

May took a deep breath. “It’s his dad who made me angry.”

Sophia immediately got it. She figured it was because May had seen Stella’s kid just now.

She said, “I only found out last night that Stella’s kid is in the same class as Lucas. You didn’t happen to see them at the gate, did you?”

“Yeah, that’s exactly what happened,” May replied.

Sophia smiled and shook her head. “Don’t let it get to you. We’ve long known that they have a kid. That isn’t surprising at all.”

May was still annoyed. “Seriously, Easton is a jerk. He keeps telling you that nothing’s going on between him and Stella, but come on, their kid is the same age as Lucas. What a liar.”

Sophia just stayed silent.

May felt she had overstepped and quickly apologized, “Sophia, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have brought this up again.” Sophia replied calmly, “It’s fine. Since I got back to Jenston, there’s no avoiding it. Even if you hadn’t mentioned it, the media would still throw it in our faces.

“Am I supposed to hide from this every single time? Don’t worry, I’m not that fragile, and I won’t believe a word he says.”

Seeing that Sophia didn’t seem bothered, May relaxed a bit and shifted the topic. “The Twilight Charity’s anniversary gala is the day after tomorrow. I think they’ve sent out invitations. Crestview Group should have received theirs as well, right?”

Sophia kept typing away on her phone, still replying to emails. “Yeah, I got it.”

May said, “I might have to travel for work, so I won’t be able to come with you. Julian will take Ms. Hughes, I guess?”

“Yeah, Annie will be back tomorrow,” Sophia replied.

“Since we’re supposed to bring a partner, do you think Mr. Hayes will ask you ahead of time?” May teased.

Just as May finished talking, Sophia’s phone suddenly rang. She glanced at it and thought, ‘Speak of the devil.’

Sophia pursed her lips, then picked up the call. “Good morning, Frank.”

“Are you heading to work now?” Frank’s voice was gentle.

“Yeah, I’m already on the way. Are you coming by to take care of the purchase paperwork?” Sophia replied, figuring he was stopping by for the contract.

Frank explained, “I’ve got two important meetings today, so I’ll come by tomorrow.”

“Then what’s this call about? Is there something else?” Sophia asked, sounding a bit curious.

Frank said, “Well, the Twilight Charity anniversary gala is the night after tomorrow. My assistant is tied up, but

I know Crestview Group is among the guests, so I wanted to ask if you’d be willing to come with me.” Sophia paused for a moment, considering.

“It’s totally fine if you’re busy. I can ask someone else,” Frank said quickly, worried she might refuse. “No, I think I can make it,” Sophia agreed.
