117.Chapter 117
“Let me drive you home tonight. I’ll take your car back to my place, and tomorrow morning, I’ll swing by and pick you up for work.”
Sophia smiled and hooked her arm through May’s. “I love you, May.”
May grinned. “I know.”
They grabbed a quick bite at a nearby restaurant, then headed home together.
Lucas had just finished his bath and came downstairs. Seeing Sophia going back, he ran to her, his voice full of excitement. “Mom, you’re finally home. I missed you so much.”
Sophia looked at him fondly and hugged him. “You smell so good, sweetheart. I missed you, too.”
Lucas stuck out his lips, putting on a fake pout. “This morning when I woke up, you had already gone to work. I didn’t even get to give you a kiss.”
Sophia couldn’t help but smile at his adorable whining and stroked his hair gently to comfort him. “Sorry, sweetheart. Uncle Julian and I were so busy this morning that we had to leave for work early. You were still asleep then.”
Lucas snuggled into Sophia’s arms, frowning with concern. “You must be really tired, so you don’t have to tell me a bedtime story. I’ll tell you one instead.”
“Sure,” Sophia said, planting a kiss on his chubby cheek.
After freshening up, Sophia came out of the bathroom and noticed Lucas seriously flipping through the news on his iPad.
Curious, she went over to see what had him so interested, and it turned out he was watching an interview with
Easton.
Sophia sat on the bed, feeling thoughtful. The ties between Lucas and Easton weren’t something she could just easily break, no matter how hard she tried.
“Lucas, you like this guy, huh?” Sophia asked.
Lucas nodded at first, then hesitated and shook his head.
Sophia couldn’t help but feel puzzled. She gently stroked his hair. “What’s that supposed to mean, sweetie?”
Lucas said with a dead-serious look, “Mom, I don’t want you two to be together anymore.”
Sophia couldn’t help but laugh at how serious Lucas looked. “Why did you change your mind?”
Lucas stood up and wrapped his arms around Sophia’s neck, looking genuinely upset. “He is David’s dad, and David is new in our class. I saw him bringing David to school a few days back.”
Sophia was surprised that Stella’s child was also at St. Mary’s Children’s House and in the same class as Lucas. She was a little speechless.
It seemed she had been right to keep Lucas’s information under wraps for now.
Sophia fell silent for a moment, then gently reassured him, “It’s alright. He’s a stranger to us anyway. There’s no reason to be upset over this.”
Lucas nodded, making up his mind. “I won’t mention him again. Next time, I’ll find you an even cooler boyfriend.”
Sophia couldn’t help but chuckle at his words, thinking he was just too adorable. “Okay.”
The next morning, Sophia woke up early.
May showed up at the Roth residence first thing in the morning. Since breakfast was done and there was still time, she suggested taking Lucas to school together.
When they reached the school, May walked Lucas up to the entrance, smiling warmly at him. “Bye, sweetie.”
After watching Lucas head inside, she turned to leave, only to see Easton approaching, holding David’s hand.
