Easton had pretty much confirmed what he’d thought before. Just then, his phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and picked up.

Charles said, “I’ve looked into Sophia’s years at the art academy in Japoria. Just like you said, she majored in interior design, and for three years, her grades were incredible. She’s a total academic overachiever.” Easton couldn’t help but smile, his eyes twinkling with satisfaction. He thought, ‘Just as I guessed, Evan really is Sophia.

‘No wonder she kept turning down all our partnership offers from Foster Group, and right after she got back, she had Crestview Group snap up Rothea Designs. She is really good at hiding what she’s capable of.

At the newsroom, Stella was on the phone with Minnie. She exclaimed, “What? She made it through the critical stage?”

She thought, ‘Damn, that old bat is hard to kill. Even this didn’t take her down. No way, I can’t let her wake up. If she does, she’ll spill everything to Easton-and once that happens, they’ll dig up all my secrets for sure. With Easton being who he is, forget just me-even the entire Weston Group could vanish from Jenston.’

After hanging up on Minnie, Stella made another call. She said, “Don’t ask anything. Quit your job at the nursing home right now. I’ll find you a new place-just move there and stay put. Whatever happens, don’t ever show up in Jenston again.”

“Understood. I’ll take care of it today,” the person replied, not hesitating for a second.

Stella anxiously paced her office, nerves stretched tight. The more she dwelled on it, the more freaked out she felt.

Minnie had said that with Irene’s current condition, nobody knew if she’d ever wake up-or if she’d stay like this for good. Even so, there was no way Stella would take that gamble.

Stella called Minnie again. She said, “Minnie, I’ve given this some serious thought. We’ve come too far to slip up now-if that old witch wakes up, all hell will break loose for us.”

Minnie was just as nervous. She asked, “Then what are you saying we should do?”

“We have to wipe her out-completely. No second chances, no loose threads,” Stella replied, her tone icy and

resolute.

Minnie struggled with her nerves. She said, “But there are a bunch of bodyguards outside her hospital room. If we’re not doctors or nurses, there’s no way we’re getting in.”

“She’s going to be getting all kinds of tests, moving around from place to place. We’ll have our shot sooner or later, Stella said, her eyes glimmering with cold cunning and something dark lurking beneath.

Minnie immediately caught on to what Stella was saying. She replied, “Alright, I’ll come by later-we’ll plan our next move carefully.”

Stella sank into her office chair, her expression heavy and grim. She thought, ‘Once Irene is out of the picture, I’ Il have Easton all to myself. No one will dare stand in my way.’

After work, Sophia headed straight to the hospital. The bodyguards nodded and greeted her politely as she walked past, their respect for her clear in their every move.

Grace was helping Irene freshen up when Sophia offered to help.

Grace said, “Mrs. Foster, you can leave this to me.”

Sophia poured Grace a glass of water and said, ‘Grace, take a breather and let me handle things for now. If I’m not around tonight, you can help then.”

Grace accepted the water gratefully and said, “Mrs. Sophia Foster, you’re truly thoughtful. No wonder Mrs. Irene Foster cares so much about you.”

Sophia sat down beside Grace and said gently, “Grace, I know you and Irene have always cared about me, but Easton and I have been divorced for years now. Maybe don’t call me Mrs. Foster anymore-people might misunderstand, especially after all this time.”

Grace said, “Ms. Roth, I’m really sorry. It’s just an old habit, and Mrs. Irene Foster always tells everyone you’re her granddaughter-in-law, so it kind of sticks.”
