155 Chapter 155
155.Chapter 155
Annie explained gently, “Word is, a big shot from Haverton took his archaeology crew to an ancient tomb from Loria and actually dug it up. I never thought they’d be willing to let it go at auction.”
The more Sophia stared at it, the more obsessed she became.
Even though Easton was busy talking shop with Julian, he was still keeping an ear out for Sophia and Annie’s conversation.
After dinner, Easton sat in his car and scrolled through the PALIA Auctions announcement on his phone.
“Gordon, clear my schedule for two nights from now. I’m going to the PALIA Auctions,” Easton said.
Gordon was caught off guard. That meeting had already been rescheduled so many times, and the board was already complaining. If it got pushed back again, he’d probably get an earful from those old-timers.
But with Easton’s moods so unpredictable lately, Gordon didn’t dare offer any advice; he just kept his head down and agreed.
“Yes, Mr. Foster,” Gordon replied.
At Crestview Group, Sophia was sketching in her office when Emily knocked and came in.
“Sophia, I got you a ticket for tonight’s auction,” Emily announced.
Sophia took the ticket from her, grinning. “You’re a lifesaver. They invited me when I was in Japoria, but I checked out the catalog and nothing caught my eye, so I turned them down.
“But after I got back, I saw on their website that they just added a ruby at the last minute. I’m totally obsessed with it, so I really appreciate you getting me a ticket on such short notice.”
Seeing Sophia so happy, Emily couldn’t help but smile too.
By eight that night, Sophia showed up at the auction. As she stepped out of her car, she saw May already waiting by the entrance.
“I thought you weren’t coming tonight,” May teased.
Sophia grinned, “No way. There’s a ruby up for grabs tonight that I’ve been dying to get; there’s no chance I’d miss this.”
May hooked her arm through Sophia’s. “So you’ve got your heart set on that ruby, huh?”
“Absolutely,” Sophia said with a gentle smile.
“Come on, we’re already the last ones here,” May said.
Sophia just smiled, totally unfazed. “We’ve got VIP boxes, and the ruby I want is the grand finale, so no rush.”
The second-floor boxes weren’t as flashy as the ones on the third, but they were plenty secure and private.
“I thought you were after that vintage ruby bracelet, but turns out it’s not,” May said.
Sophia’s eyes were on that ruby from the very start; nothing else even caught her attention.
She really did love that bracelet, but with that romantic legend behind it, she thought it was best to let it find its rightful owner.
She and May had just settled in when their auction rep told them the bracelet had already gone for 15 million.
Before long, it was finally time for the final item, the showstopper of the auction.
Sophia’s eyes sparkled as she stared at the ruby, totally mesmerized.
The auctioneer gave a detailed rundown of the ruby’s history, and once he finished, the bidding was about to kick off.
The starting price was 2.8 million, with bids going up in increments of 150 thousand.

155 Chapter 155
Sophia wasn’t in any rush to jump in. She just sat back and watched the others duke it out for a while, waiting to see how things played out.
By the time the price hit 5 million, the number of bidders started to thin out.
Only a couple of rooms on the third floor were still in the game.
That was when Sophia gave her agent the signal to raise the paddle. “5.3 million,” she called out.
As soon as her agent’s voice rang out, the whole room was buzzing with surprise.
People were stunned. ‘How could someone on the second floor still keep up at this price, and even jump it up to 5.3 million?’ they wondered.
Easton was sitting in his third-floor VIP box when he heard someone on the second floor bidding. He looked over, trying to spot which room had raised the paddle, but the view was blocked; he couldn’t see a thing.
Easton kept his cool and told his agent, “Keep bidding.”
