174.Chapter 174
‘Sophia?’ Annie called out.
As soon as Sophia stepped out of the front gate, she ran into the three of them. She knew there was no way to cover things up anymore.
She walked over, took Lucas from Annie, and smiled softly. “Annie, let’s talk when we get home.”
They headed upstairs together. Sophia asked Mia to take Lucas to freshen up and get some rest. Then she made two cups of coffee for Julian and Annie.
Annie was bursting with questions. Seeing Lucas, who looked about three or four, she had a wild guess. “Sophia, is Lucas-” Annie couldn’t help but ask.
“That’s right. He’s Easton and my child,” Sophia replied with composure.
Annie nodded. “Easton doesn’t know about Lucas, right?”
Sophia nodded. “He doesn’t. All these years, Uncle Edward and Julian did a great job helping me cover up. Not even in Japoria did anyone ever find out about him.”
Annie’s heart ached for Sophia. She sat down beside her and took her hand. “If Easton had known about Lucas, you two never would’ve gotten divorced.”
“Annie, ever since I made the decision to get divorced, I never intended for Easton to find out,” Sophia replied. A bitter smile flickered across Sophia’s lips as she did her best to mask her feelings.
Some memories were easier to leave buried if she didn’t talk about them, but now that she had to explain everything to Annie, all those moments came rushing back.
Sophia gave Annie a concise explanation of why they split up and shared the things and challenges she’d faced raising Lucas in Japoria over the years.
Annie’s eyes were red from crying.
Julian could see how much she cared about Sophia, so he gently wrapped his arm around her. “It’s all over. Sophia has us, and she has Lucas. She’s just as happy as ever, so don’t be sad.”
Annie nodded. “Sophia, you can count on me. Since you don’t want Easton to know, I won’t breathe a word to anyone. And I’ll love Lucas just like family.”
Sophia was really touched. She gave Annie a hug. “Thank you, Annie.”
Annie had been performing in Harlinton, and Sophia and Julian went out of their way to keep her and Lucas from meeting, so today was the first time Lucas saw Annie, and they could tell he liked her.
Annie also liked Lucas. Beyond just being his aunt-in-law, they were actually family by blood, and that connection made her feel even more attached to him.
Just before they headed out after dinner, Annie suggested that Sophia move back to Windmere Estate. She said it’d be so much fun with everyone under one roof, and she could look after Lucas.
Sophia gave a gentle smile and politely declined.
Annie got it. Sophia didn’t want to bother her and Julian, and besides, this place was close to Lucas’s kindergarten. She didn’t want the hassle of moving, either.
Therefore, Annie didn’t push it, but she did offer to take care of Lucas whenever she and Julian were busy.
Sophia was more than happy with that arrangement.
As they stepped out of the elevator and headed toward the parking lot, Julian slipped his arm around Annie’s waist and tried to sweet-talk her, “Babe, are you mad at me?”
Annie shot him a glare. “Julian, you never trusted me. Sophia kept quiet, and you didn’t tell me either. Do you know how upset I was when I saw you holding Lucas? I thought-”
