Julian pulled her close, stole a kiss from her lips, and teased, “You thought I had an illegitimate kid, right?”

Annie pushed him away with a huff. “Yeah.”

Julian pulled her back into his arms and whispered in her ear, “Didn’t you already check for yourself on our wedding night?”

Annie blushed, and she pouted. “Stop it.”

She gave Julian a playful smack and complained, “Whenever I asked if you wanted a boy or a girl, you never gave me a straight answer.

“And every time we have sex, you always wear condoms. I can see how much you like Lucas. You don’t seem like someone who doesn’t want kids. So, why don’t you want me to get pregnant?”

Julian thought Annie looked absolutely adorable when she was upset. He gently held her face and said softly.” I’m really worried about the risks of pregnancy.”

Annie blinked in confusion. “Sophia gave birth to Lucas without any problems. Medicine is advanced now. How dangerous could having a baby be? I’m not afraid, so what are you so worried about?”

Julian looked into her eyes, holding her even tighter. “I’m just scared, Annie. Even if there’s only a tiny chance something could go wrong, I won’t let you take that risk.

“Don’t be fooled by how calm Sophia seems when she talks about it. Back when she had Lucas, it was a dangerous situation for her.”

Annie was surprised.

After Julian and Annie left, Sophia felt a mess of emotions.

Even though Annie had promised not to tell anyone, Sophia still felt worried. She thought that if Annie could figure out Lucas was Easton’s son just by looking at his age, then Easton would surely know.

What really worried Sophia was Stella. That woman was seriously dangerous. If she ever learned about Lucas, Sophia couldn’t even imagine what she might do.

Just the thought of it gave Sophia chills.

Sophia was standing by the floor-to-ceiling window in her bedroom, lost in thought, when her phone suddenly rang, breaking the silence. She glanced at the screen and found it was May calling.

After chatting about work for a bit, Sophia told her about what had happened today.

“Honestly, it’s probably a good thing that Annie knows now. You don’t have to keep hiding things anymore. And now Lucas has another aunt who loves him,” May said, trying to comfort her.

“Yeah, I get it, Sophia replied.

“Honestly, the person we owe the most is Benjamin. If he hadn’t stepped in and saved you back then, Lucas might not even be here today,” May said.

Sophia nodded. “Yeah, it was pouring rain and the wind was howling that night. If Benjamin hadn’t come across us, who knows what could have happened? Lucas and I might not have made it out alive.

“Therefore, no matter what, I’m going to help him get that Maritime Authority project back. It’s the least I can do to pay him back.”

“Easton is such a bastard. He nearly got the man who saved his own son hurt because of Stella. Doesn’t he worry about karma coming back to bite him?” May snapped, her anger barely contained.

“Forget it. Easton doesn’t know a thing. Now that it’s all sorted, it’s better if Benjamin heads back to Yorkland. With someone as vicious as Stella lurking around, the longer he stays in Jenston, the dangerous it is,” Sophia

said.

She thought, Easton, if you ever find out about Lucas, would you try to take him away from me?
