Easton kept his head down, his forehead and the tip of his nose slick with sweat. His eyes were shut, and he was completely unresponsive. Sophia didn’t dare utter a word. The only sound in the bathroom was the constant rush of water into the tub.

Sophia wrapped her arms around Easton’s neck, hoping that holding him close would give him at least a little warmth, even though he was soaking in cold water.

As time went by, Sophia, already worn out after all the chaos Easton had caused, crouched down next to him, and before she knew it, she had drifted off to sleep.

When she woke up, she found herself lying in bed.

She opened her eyes and stared at the unfamiliar ceiling, then sat up abruptly, glancing around the room. She patted her own cheek. “How did I end up here?”

Then it hit her that Easton got sick last night.

She quickly got out of bed and sleepily shuffled out of the bedroom. Gordon was in the center of the living room, on a call.

Soon after, he turned around and saw Sophia, who had just woken up, standing behind him. He ended the call and quickly walked over to her.

“Ms. Roth, good morning,” Gordon said.

Sophia glanced around the room, instinctively searching for Easton. “Where’s Easton?”

Gordon replied respectfully, “Mr. Foster had to attend a major international meeting this morning. He headed back to the office about an hour ago.”

Sophia grabbed Gordon’s arm, her voice anxious. “Does Easton have a hidden illness? I’ve noticed the same thing twice now.”

Gordon couldn’t meet her eyes.

“Just tell me, is he sick or not?” Sophia pressed.

Gordon wasn’t about to spill Easton’s secrets. He just told Sophia that Easton’s health was a bit delicate. He had been drinking too much at work events lately and was totally overworked, so he had been having

headaches.

Sophia wasn’t convinced, but there was no point in pressing him. She didn’t want to put Gordon on the spot, so she just dropped the subject.

After she got home, Sophia sat alone on the couch, replaying last night in her mind. Easton’s condition was way more serious than just a headache. He was burning up.

He looked so miserable that he had to sit in an ice-cold bath just to feel a little better.

If Irene were awake, Sophia could have tried to ask her. But with how guarded Easton always was, she figured Irene probably didn’t know either.

Suddenly, Sophia caught herself. ‘Why am I freaking out over this? I’m seriously losing it, she thought.

She quickly rubbed her eyes and returned to her bedroom. She packed up the luggage she had brought back last night, hopped in the shower, put on makeup and fresh clothes, then drove straight to Crestview Group. Julian had taken Annie on a business trip for a conference and still hadn’t come back.

When Sophia showed up at work today, the whole project team breathed a sigh of relief. Even Emily looked way less stressed. She followed Sophia into the office, holding some files.

“Ms. Roth, I’m so glad you’re back. Foster Group still hasn’t approved this proposal. I went over there a couple of days ago, but not only did Easton refuse to see me, even the project lead wouldn’t give me the time of day.” Emily said.

Emily gave Sophia a rundown of everything that had happened these past few days, looking like she had been through the wringer.

Sophia furrowed her brows. She knew Easton was a tough nut to crack. She grabbed the file from Emily, went through it, and quickly tweaked a few sections.

After another careful check, she found no mistakes, then printed out the design drafts she had drawn in Japoria.
