“Emily, prepare the rest of the documents. We’ll head to Foster Group together in half an hour, Sophia said.

Emily nodded and rushed out to get things ready.

Sophia gave Gordon a call before heading out. “Gordon, it’s Sophia.”

“Hello, Ms. Roth, Gordon greeted her, as courteous as ever.

“I’ll be at Foster Group in about an hour. Could you give Easton a heads-up?” Sophia asked.

Gordon glanced over at Easton, who was sitting at the head of the conference table, looking serious.

He hesitated, then said, “Ms. Roth, I’m really sorry, but today’s just not going to work. Easton’s still tied up in a major international meeting, and it could run until three or four this afternoon.

“Plus, he has a flight to Harlinton at seven tonight for a conference tomorrow. His whole day’s booked solid.”

Sophia couldn’t help but feel frustrated. With Easton’s schedule packed like that, even if she showed up at Foster Group, chances were he would still be too swamped to meet with her about the proposal.

So she decided to wait until he was back from Harlinton.

At three in the afternoon, Easton stepped out of the conference room and headed back to his office, with Gordon trailing behind.

He picked up his phone and glanced at it, his brow furrowing slightly. “Has Sophia tried to reach me today?” Gordon was standing by the desk, sorting through the documents Easton needed for his trip to Harlinton tonight.

When Easton suddenly asked, he quickly replied, “Oh, yes, Ms. Roth called me around nine this morning. She was scheduled to come by at 10 this morning to review the design drawings for the Southern Development Zone project.

“However, we’re tied up in a lengthy international meeting, and we have a flight to Harlinton at seven tonight, so I postponed her and told her we’d reschedule once you’re back.”

Easton’s face instantly darkened. He slammed his phone down on the desk, his voice sharp with irritation. Gordon Lowell, you make over 300 thousand a year. Can’t you tell what really matters?”

Gordon hadn’t heard Easton call him by his full name in ages. He immediately realized he had messed up today’s schedule.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Foster. I won’t make the same mistake again,” Gordon said quickly.

Easton barely kept his anger in check as he glanced at his watch. “Get the files ready. We’re leaving now. We’ll stop by Crestview Group first, then head to the airport.”

“Okay, Mr. Foster,” Gordon said.

Gordon left the office, feeling like he was walking on eggshells.

Tim, Gordon’s assistant, saw him come out of Easton’s office and practically glued himself to Gordon’s side, brown-nosing as usual. “Gordon, you look super tense. Did Mr. Foster dump some big task on you? Need me to help with anything?”

Gordon honestly couldn’t stand Tim. Tim could get things done, but he couldn’t keep his mouth shut about anything. When it came to anything sensitive about Easton, Gordon would never let Tim anywhere near it. “Just focus on your own work. If I need you, I’ll let you know. Also, Mr. Foster and I are flying to Harlinton tonight and won’t be back until the day after tomorrow at the earliest. Just keep things running in the secretary’s office while I’m gone,” Gordon said.
