Sophia sat at her desk, looking up in confusion at May, who was standing by the window talking on the phone.

May walked back to her desk and sat down. “Minnie got on Easton’s bad side a couple of days ago. After she was brought back from Harlinton, they took her straight to Jackson and Mrs. Hayes.

“The Hayes family never cared for her since she’s the illegitimate daughter. Word is, the elders enforced the family rules, and now she’s badly hurt, stuck in Mercy Private Hospital.”

Sophia put down her pen. “How did Minnie manage to piss off Easton out of the blue?”

May’s expression turned grim. “From what I heard, Minnie drugged Easton after the networking party in Harlinton two nights ago. She was also colluding with an assistant from Foster Group’s secretary’s office. They’ve been secretly working together for a while.

“Turns out, that assistant’s been leaking Foster Group’s business secrets for ages. When Easton found out, he gave them a brutal ultimatum. If the Hayes family didn’t want to vanish from Jenston overnight, they’d better make it up to him, and fast. “Jackson was so furious, he almost beat Minnie half to death. But then, the photos someone had deliberately snapped and emailed to her anonymously yesterday flashed through Sophia’s mind.

She really couldn’t figure out what their motive was.

After all, she and Easton had been divorced for years. No matter who he was with now, she had no right to interfere, nor any interest in doing so.

“Stella must be losing her mind right now. Minnie might be the illegitimate daughter, but she’s got serious skills and knows how to get things done.

“A lot of Stella’s successes were thanks to her. Now that they’ve fallen out, Stella’s down one more trusted ally,” May said offhandedly.

Sophia kept quiet. Honestly, she didn’t give a damn who Easton spent that night with.

Stella had just gotten back from Harlinton when she heard Minnie had been punished by the family and ended up badly hurt, now stuck in a hospital bed.

Early that morning, while the doctors were switching shifts, she slipped quietly into Minnie’s hospital room.

“Minnie, it’s me,” Stella whispered.

Minnie slowly opened her eyes, too emotional to speak.

“Come on, let me help you sit up. We need to talk,” Stella said softly.

Minnie was battered and bruised all over. Even the slightest touch made her cry out in pain, tears streaming down her cheeks.

“Stella, you have to save me. I don’t want to go back to the Hayes family. I can’t go back to that awful place,” Minnie begged,
