218.Chapter 218

Catherine couldn’t help but sneer the moment Stella’s name came up.

“That ungrateful brat, never loyal, never grateful. Once we’re done with the Roth family, she’s out of the Weston family for good,” Catherine said.

Alex stood up, buttoning his suit jacket. “Mom, we should keep this between us. Don’t let Dad hear you say stuff like that. Don’t you remember what happened last time?”

Just thinking about the past got Catherine all worked up again.

“Sophia is just like her mother, a natural seductress. Her mom seduced my husband, and now her daughter is messing with

my son.

“Alex, I’m telling you, don’t be as clueless as your brother. When you see her, don’t let her get under your skin,” Catherine snapped.

Alex just scoffed, saying nothing.

He thought, ‘Women? I have plenty. But the woman everyone calls Jenston’s number one socialite? Now, she is someone I actually want to check out.’

After leaving the hospital, Sophia had her driver take her to Grandview Estate so she could leave her luggage, then she headed straight to Crestview Group.

Since it was still the New Year holiday, the whole office building was empty except for a few security guards on duty.

Emily was asked to come in and work overtime today. She didn’t even need a heads-up from Sophia. She’d already seen the announcement on Barrington Energy’s official website.

Just as she was about to call Ms. Roth, her phone rang. It was May.

The three of them had agreed to meet for overtime work, and Emily showed up half an hour earlier than Sophia.

“Emily, happy New Year! Sorry to pull you back in during the holidays. We hit a snag with the port project. May probably already gave you the details.

“We’re on a tight schedule and need to lock down a new partner before next quarter to make sure the port project gets back on track,” Sophia said.

Sophia walked into her office, booting up her computer while chatting with Emily.

Emily had arrived half an hour earlier, printed out some materials on fuel companies, and was just wrapping up when Sophia came in.

“Sophia, it’s really no problem. I usually spend the holidays alone in my apartment, scrolling through my phone and catching up on shows.

“Honestly, having no work feels even stranger to me. Don’t worry, things will work out. We’ll definitely find the right partner and sort everything out,” Emily said, always the optimist.

Sophia smiled and nodded at her.

Just then, May knocked on the door. “Happy New Year, you two!”

Sophia caught sight of May juggling bags of food and shot her a knowing smile. ‘Guess we’re in for a full day at the office together, she thought.

Emily went over to help May with the food, and soon the three of them plopped down together on the couch, snacks spread out on the coffee table, ready to dive into work.

As Crestview Group’s legal counsel, Sophia told May that no matter what, they had to hold Barrington Energy accountable for breaking their promise, getting every bit of compensation and a real apology that Crestview deserved.

May nodded in agreement.

‘Letting them off without a legal lesson just isn’t an option, she thought.

Emily pulled out the files she’d put together and showed them to Sophia and May. “Sophia, honestly, in Jenston, every company except Barrington Energy, their prices alone would bury us.”

“And those third-rate firms? Their quality just doesn’t cut it. I’ve dug through a ton of options, and so far, this is the only one that can really go toe-to-toe with Barrington Energy in both price and quality,” she said.
