230.Chapter 230
Ever since that Twilight Charity anniversary party, Sophia hardly showed up at any business gatherings.

For one thing, she was totally buried in work. Not only did she have to handle the port project, but she was also running the entire Southern Development Zone project herself.
On top of that, she was flying to Japoria all the time. So, people in Jenston’s high society stopped talking about her as much.
Besides, Sophia just didn’t feel like showing up at those parties. There were way too many people she’d rather avoid. Faking smiles and playing nice with people she couldn’t stand? No thanks. That was way too much for her.
Julian had been staying in Jenston these days, so whenever there was an important business function, Sophia just let him handle it.
“Sophia, it’s the Hayes Group’s anniversary party tonight. Aren’t you going?” Julian asked as he passed by her office after a meeting.
He went out of his way to stop by and ask her.
Sophia was going to pass on it, but Frank was really persistent. He called her twice and sent several messages, all sounding genuinely sincere. She felt bad about turning him down again.
After all, she hadn’t seen Frank since that day at the restaurant when Easton whisked her away. Considering Easton had deliberately made things difficult for Frank because of her, Sophia figured she should apologize to Frank in person.
“I’ll go. Frank’s been so sincere about it, I really can’t say no,” Sophia replied.
Julian shook his head with a smile. “Honestly, these days, I think only Mr. Hayes could actually get you to show up.”
Sophia just shrugged. ‘Guess I really do feel a little guilty about it, she thought.
When work was over and she saw there was still plenty of time, Sophia was planning to stop by Grandview Estate to get changed and freshen up. But just as she got in the car, her phone rang. It was May.
I
“Sophia, you haven’t left the office yet, right? I’m already on my way to get you. Just wait for me!
“I’m taking you to this new couture boutique to pick out a dress, and I’ve already booked Helen. She’ll make sure you look absolutely gorgeous tonight,” May said, her voice full of excitement.
Sophia rubbed her forehead, feeling that May was going a bit overboard. She said, “Is all this really necessary?
“You even got that celebrity makeup artist who works with movie stars. It’s not like tonight’s some huge deal. I still have plenty of new dresses at home I haven’t even worn yet.”
May was practically scolding her, totally frustrated. She said, “Sophia, you seriously don’t get it! The Hayes Group’s anniversary party is a huge deal. In Jenston, only the Foster and Howard families outrank them.
“Hayes is number three now. Socialites are dying for an invite, but you? You’re the VIP, personally invited by Frank himself. Tonight, you have to show those snobs exactly how they used to mock you, and now, watch you put them in their place.
“Even without the Mrs. Foster title, you’re still the top choice for any elite family in Jenston. Those girls? They’re nobodies compared to you.”
Sophia had let go of most of what happened back then, and honestly, she didn’t really care what people thought or said about her anymore.
“May, you know I don’t see Frank that way. I really don’t want to give him any false hope or make him think there’s a chance between us. Most importantly, I don’t want to waste his time,” Sophia said.
“Sophia, you know I got you. Tonight, I just want you to look drop-dead gorgeous and totally slap those stuck-up socialites in the face. That’s the only reason, I promise!” May insisted.
Sophia burst out laughing. “May, I never thought you’d still be this childish.”
May pouted. “Hey, they used to gang up on you and freeze you out. If you don’t show them up now, when will you?”
Sophia gave in. “Fine, I’ll wait for you in the garage.”
