“Mommy, you look so pretty tonight! Did you go to a party?” Lucas asked in his sweet, childish voice.
Sophia’s eyes softened with affection as she saw her son’s little face on the screen. “Yeah, I did. Did you just wake up?”
Lucas nodded. “Just now. The nanny’s making me breakfast, and after I eat, I’m going to school.”
They chatted for about ten minutes when a familiar voice chimed in next to Lucas.
“Lucas, go have your breakfast. I’ll take you to school in a bit,” that man said. Lucas grinned, said goodbye to Sophia, and popped off the screen.
“You’re up this early to see Lucas?” Sophia asked.
He gave a mischievous smile. “He’s my son. Honestly, I could spend the whole night with him if I wanted.”
Sophia laughed. “Then you should drop by more often.”
Easton’s smile faded, and he got serious. “Last time you asked me to look for Chloe, after some digging, I finally picked up
her trail in Silverharbor.”
Sophia blinked in surprise. “Wait, Chloe’s in Silverharbor?”
He nodded. “According to my team, she’s been lying low and trying to stay off our radar. But even the smartest people get sick sometimes. I had my guys watch the hospitals, and turns out, she’s in Silverharbor.”
Sophia’s eyes narrowed. “Where is she, exactly?”
After hanging up the video call, he sent Sophia the location on WhatsApp.
Sophia glanced at the message, then called Emily. “Book me the earliest flight to Silverharbor tomorrow.”
Early the next morning, Sophia got to the airport bright and early, only to find that tons of flights were canceled because of Jenston’s blizzard.
Emily called her, “Sophia, I checked with the airline. They’re blaming the weather, so everything’s still showing as delayed. We’ll have to wait for the staff to give us an update on the actual departure time.”
“Alright, I got it,” Sophia replied. Even though the blizzard had finally let up, the airline still refused to restart flights, and she couldn’t help feeling frustrated.
“Sophia, do you want me to come pick you up at the airport?” Emily asked.
Sophia checked the time on her phone. It was almost nine at night. There was no point in waiting any longer. Just as she was about to reply to Emily, her phone lit up with a call from the person in Japoria.
“Emily, hold on a sec. I’ve got an important call coming in,” Sophia said.
Putting Emily on hold, Sophia answered the other call. “So, did you find her?”
“Sophia, no need to rush to Silverharbor. I’ve got a private jet bringing Chloe straight back to Jenston for you. With the weather, they should land in about an hour. If you’re still stuck at the airport, just hang tight and wait,” the caller said.
Sophia’s face lit up. “Alright.”
After the call, Sophia still told Emily to drive over, so once Chloe arrived, they could pick her up and take her away immediately.
After hanging up, Sophia settled into a quiet corner. Meanwhile, over in the waiting lounge on the other side of the airport, someone had already spotted her.
Because of the weather, Stella, her assistant, and David were all stuck at the airport, too.
“Stella, isn’t that Sophia over there?” the assistant asked.
Stella followed her assistant’s gaze and, sure enough, it was Sophia.
Stella scanned the area around Sophia, confused. With the blizzard going on, Sophia was completely alone, no secretary, no assistant, not even her friend May. ‘Why would she be at the airport by herself?’ Stella couldn’t help but wonder.
“Go find out what Sophia’s doing at the airport,” Stella whispered to her assistant.
