Sophia hadn’t expected Edward to get this mad. She quickly tried to calm him down. She said, “Uncle Edward, please don’t be angry.”

Edward grabbed Sophia’s hand. He demanded, “Go back to Japoria. Leave tomorrow, no delays. And stay away from Crestview Group. Do you hear me?”

Sophia’s heart skipped a beat: Edward was truly pissed off.

Annie was just as shocked, not sure why Edward was so worked up. She jumped in to help calm him down. She said, “Edward, Sophia won’t do anything reckless. Don’t worry. Even if she tries, I’ll step in right away.”

Edward didn’t even listen to what they were saying. He just stared at Sophia, worry and heartbreak written all over his face. He thought, ‘If I can, I will do anything to keep those secrets buried forever, so Sophia would never know.

Just the thought of it made Edward feel like he was suffocating.

Sophia had never seen Edward so freaked out before. She thought, ‘If I don’t agree, he probably won’t get any sleep tonight!’

She hesitated for a moment, then slowly nodded.

When Edward saw her nod, he finally looked relieved.

Sophia and Annie kept watch over Edward until he finally drifted off to sleep, then left the hospital room together.

Annie was still puzzled, but she didn’t overthink why Edward was so emotional. She just thought he cared about Sophia and didn’t want her to throw away her own happiness by marrying for the sake of the Roth family.

Annie said, “Sophia, I talked to my parents about the Crestview Group a while back. The Hughes family might look glamorous, but Hughes Corporation is a tangled mess. Everyone’s always scheming. My dad’s the chairman, and he’s exhausted every single day.

“Even if he wants to help Crestview Group, there’s only so much he can do. I’m really sorry I haven’t been able to do much for the Roth family.”

Annie held Sophia’s hand, sounding a bit unsure as she asked, “Sophia, why don’t we ask Easton for help?”

Sophia knew exactly what Annie meant, but of all people, Easton was the one she least wanted to ask for help.

She kept her cool and gently shook her head. She said, “Annie, we’ve known about Hughes Corporation’s situation for a long time, so you really don’t need to feel guilty.

“If anyone’s to blame, it’s the Roth family, for making you marry into all this trouble.”

Annie shook her head and said, “Don’t say that. I’m not suffering at all. Marrying Julian is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

Sophia made sure to steer clear of anything about Easton, not even considering answering Annie’s question.

Annie was sharp: she caught on right away and knew better than to bring it up again.

The news that Crestview Group was about to go under had spread like wildfire across Jenston.
