Easton looked up at George, who wore that smug, all-knowing look, like he had everything under control.

“Want to hear the story behind all this?” George asked.

George glanced at Easton, catching that icy look on his face and the shock in his eyes, and couldn’t help feeling pretty pleased with himself.

Half an hour later, George and Alex left Foster Group.

Easton stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, hands in his pockets, his expression grave.

Gordon had been there the whole time, and he could totally get what Easton was feeling right now.

“Mr. Foster, the board meeting’s started,” Gordon reminded him softly.

Easton nodded.

Easton had barely taken two steps before he stopped in his tracks, his voice dropping low as he said, “Have Fletcher come see me tonight.”

“Yes, Mr. Foster,” Gordon replied.

He thought, ‘I knew it. No matter what happened, Mr. Foster would always have Ms. Roth’s back. There is no way he’d let George and Alex walk away feeling so pleased with themselves.’

Derrick had been away from Jenston for over nine years, and he hadn’t set foot back here since. The city had changed a lot.

He watched the buildings flash by outside the window, and all he could think was, ‘The city’s still here, but everything else has changed.’

“What’s got you so spaced out?” Sophia asked.

Derrick turned to Sophia and gently brushed her hair back, not answering her question. His eyes were full of concern as he looked at her. He said, “You’ve gotten thinner, and you look exhausted. Sophia, you’ve really had a tough time lately.”

Sophia lowered her eyes and gave a soft smile. She said, “It’s fine. If you and Julian come back safe and sound, everything I went through is worth it.”

Derrick grinned and said, “Let’s swing by the hospital and check on Uncle Edward and Julian first. Later, we’ll head back to Crestview and handle those old geezers.”

Hearing Derrick’s orders, Paolo swung the car around and drove straight toward the hospital.

When Sophia and Derrick arrived at the hospital, they headed straight for Edward’s room.

Edward had just finished his check-up and was sitting up in bed.

The butler came over with a glass of water and said, “Sir, have some water.”

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

The butler hurried over and opened the door. When he saw who was outside, he was so thrilled that his voice was shaking. He turned to Edward, barely able to contain himself, and said, “Sir, Derrick’s come home.”

Edward’s hand shook, and some water spilled from his glass. His gaze shot to the doorway.

Derrick walked over slowly, his heart pounding He said “Unicle Edward, I’m back.”

Edward continued, “All these years, your mom refused to come back and see me, never picked up my calls. I know she still holds a grudge.

“She blames me for not finding a way to get your father out of prison, and for sending you overseas all those years ago.”

His voice grew thick with emotion, and though Derrick felt a pang of sadness, he reached out to comfort Edward.
