305 Chapter 305
305.Chapter 305
The bitterness in Sophia’s heart suddenly overflowed. She couldn’t hold it back anymore. She said, “May, am I just stupid? Why do I always fall for his sweet words so easily? You know how smooth he is?
“Literally one minute before he boarded the plane, he was all affectionate, asking me to give him a chance. Then, the next minute, he was holding Stella close, getting on his private jet with her, flying off to Menolia together.”
Sophia let out a bitter laugh and continued, “I’ve lost track of how many times he’s promised me there’s nothing between him and Stella. But look at what he does.”
Sophia felt so heartbroken that she couldn’t bring herself to say anything else.
May hugged her, feeling her pain. She said, “Sophia, I know you’re hurting, but please don’t be like this.”
When she saw Sophia reaching for her drink, trying to numb herself with alcohol, May quickly stopped her, holding her hand back.
Sophia managed a faint smile and said, “May, I promise I’m really okay now. You don’t have to worry about me. Sure, I’m hurting, but I’m not dumb enough to drown myself in booze.
“Just one last drink, and after this, I’ll put it all behind me.”
May let go of her hand and watched as Sophia finished her drink.
Sophia didn’t go back to Grandview Estate, nor did she return to the Roth residence. Instead, she moved into a small apartment she’d bought for herself before her marriage.
Other than May, no one else knew about this place.
The apartment was close to the university district. Sophia had barely walked in the door when her phone rang: it was
Derrick.
“You up, or already crashed?” Derrick asked.
“Not yet,” Sophia replied.
“Emily told me you booked a flight for tomorrow night. Is that true?” Derrick said.
Sophia rubbed her temples, exhausted. She said, “Let me guess, you called to try and stop me from leaving?”
Derrick chuckled softly and said, “You’re not leaving for good, are you? Why would I waste my breath trying to talk you out of it?”
Sophia smiled and said, “So, what did you call for?”
Derrick said, “There’s a private cocktail party tomorrow. Normally, I’d just bring Paolo and Emily, but I just got back to Jenston, and there are a lot of people in the business scene here, and I could really use your help making some introductions.
“It’d make things a lot easier for me in the future. Of course, if you’re not up for it, I won’t push you.”
Sophia thought about it. She never doubted Derrick’s abilities and was fine leaving Crestview Group’s mess for him to handle. But the elite circles and business world in Jenston were ruthless: everyone there looked down their noses at outsiders and cared only about status.
If she didn’t show up tomorrow, Derrick would definitely get the cold shoulder from those people sooner or later. In their eyes, he just wasn’t a Roth.
Julian was still in a coma, and Edward hadn’t been discharged yet. If no one from the Roth family showed up to back Derrick, it just wouldn’t sit right.
“Alright, I’ll be there with you tomorrow,” Sophia said.
Derrick’s lips curled into a faint smile. He replied, “Great, see you then.”
