312 Chapter 312
312.Chapter 312
Julian continued, “Dad was only worried that Crestview Group might drag you into trouble. But now that Derrick’s back and I’m awake, we will handle everything at Crestview. You just be happy and enjoy your life as our sister.”
Sophia didn’t say yes, but she didn’t say no either.
Annie might have guessed part of the reason, but when she asked Easton, he kept quiet. She didn’t feel right asking Sophia directly, so she let it go.
Derrick drove Sophia back to her apartment near the university district. Before she got out, he ruffled her hair and said, “Go home and get some rest, alright?
“Don’t overthink it. Starting today, you’re officially on break. I’ll set up a private jet tonight, and Lucas will be back tomorrow.” Sophia nodded and said, “Okay, I know.”
The next afternoon, Sophia and May were wandering around the university district.
May said, “Babe, I’m really glad you’re not leaving. That night at Nightfall, when you said you were heading back to Japoria, I was honestly so bummed. I kept thinking, what if you disappear for another five years before coming back?”
Sophia smiled softly and said, “I’m not planning to be gone for long. I just need a little break to clear my head. So much has happened lately, and Uncle Edward was worried I’d say yes to Frank’s marriage proposal on a whim.
“I didn’t want him stressing out, so I told him I’d leave Jenston for a bit.
“Now that Julian and everyone are safe, and Crestview Group is out of the woods, I realized it’s been forever since I saw Lucas, so it makes sense to go back and visit him.
“And about coming back: it’s really not as dramatic as you think. I’ll probably only be gone a few months, tops.”
May secretly sized up Sophia before speaking, “Sophia, Ryan’s been reaching out to me these past few days. He kind of wants me to pass along some stuff about Easton in Menolia to you. But I didn’t agree to it.”
Sophia came to a halt. She said, “May, I really don’t want to think about any of that anymore. Whether something is going on between Easton and Stella, or if I just misunderstood everything, it doesn’t matter now.
“Whatever was between us ended five years ago, no, almost six. It was over back then, wasn’t it?
“Yeah, after I came back, we started seeing each other a lot more. He saved me, helped Crestview Group, and I’m honestly grateful for all of it.
“I’ll admit, there was a moment when I really wanted to give him another chance. But he just can’t seem to cut ties with Stella. So what’s the point?”
May got the message and nodded. She said, “Alright. If Ryan tries to come to me again, I’ll just turn him down.”
Sophia let out a laugh and said, “Ryan’s totally trying to chase after you. Don’t let my mess make you miss out on a great guy.”
May’s ears turned red, and for once, the usually quick-witted lawyer was stumbling over her words.
Sophia’s smile faded as she got serious. She said, “May, Katherine called me yesterday. I’m pretty sure Easton knows I’m supposed to be heading back to Japoria, but I haven’t actually left yet. If Ryan asks, just tell him I’m already back in Japoria.” May nodded and said, “Don’t worry, I won’t say a thing.”

Stella landed in Japoria by noon the next day. She didn’t waste a second. Right after stepping off the plane, she got in touch with Alex’s contact.
She’d just gotten into the car and was on her way to her destination when her phone buzzed. It was a maid calling. The maid said, “Ms. Weston, David is missing.”
