With Weston Group’s bankruptcy already set in stone, Sophia trailed behind Derrick as they returned to the office after he finished up.

“I suspect Easton was the one secretly helping Crestview Group today,” Derrick said.

He wasn’t exactly fond of Easton but couldn’t deny the possibility.

Not a flicker crossed Sophia’s face. “Why do you say that?” she asked.

Derrick handed her the freshly organized documents. “The IP address for this data transfer points to Windmere, but only a few companies worldwide have access to UN New Energy Enterprise Funds. Foster Group is one of them.”

Sophia stayed silent.

Seeing Sophia’s lack of response, Derrick let the subject drop.

He said, “You should head home. Lucas is already back at my place. I’ll take care of everything else.

“Weston Group is out of the picture now, but just in case the Weston family tries to stir up trouble, especially since you’re living alone with the kids, we’re all worried about you.

“If you plan to take the kids out for fun these days, keep Paolo with you. Understand?”

Sophia nodded in response.

Emily walked with Sophia to the parking lot, clearly reluctant to see her go. “Sophia, when are you coming back to work?”

Sophia smiled. “Why? You’ll miss me?”

Emily nodded vigorously.

Sophia hugged her. “Don’t worry. I’m just exhausted and need a break. I never planned to quit. I’ll be back in a few days.” A smile finally blossomed on Emily’s face. She hadn’t smiled in days, ever since she heard Sophia was heading back to Japoria.

Soon after Sophia left, Derrick took off from Crestview Group as well.

He made his way to Remony Medical Center and texted someone as soon as he arrived.

[Come to the lobby. I’m waiting at your hospital’s front entrance.]

Eleanore had just finished a surgery and was resting with her eyes closed in her office chair when a text notification suddenly broke the silence.

She picked up her phone and glanced at the screen, momentarily taken aback.

‘Is it him? How could it be possible?‘ she wondered.

Eleanore grabbed her phone and headed straight for the hospital entrance. When she stepped outside, she spotted Derrick leaning against his car, a freshly lit cigarette held between his long fingers..

His posture was casual, yet he looked stern.

As soon as he saw Eleanore heading his way, Derrick instinctively stubbed out his cigarette and tossed it into a nearby trash can.

“How did you know I was here?” Eleanore asked gingerly.

“You really think it’s hard for me to know where you are and what you’re up to?” Derrick said offhandedly, his gaze cool and unwavering.

“Then why…” Eleanore paused, pondering, ‘Why haven’t you come to see me?‘ She kept the question to herself.

“Hop in. Let’s grab some food,” Derrick said.

As he turned to get in the car, Eleanore suddenly hugged him from behind, her arms wrapping around his waist.

“Derrick, now that you’ve come to see me, can we just stay together and never be apart?” Eleanore asked.

Derrick’s handsome face was expressionless, and his dark eyes narrowed sharply. He stood tall and aloof, his posture cold and unapproachable.

“Stop it, Eleanore. Get in the car,” Derrick said.

Eleanore stubbornly clung to him. “No. I won’t let go until you promise me.”

Derrick sighed, defeated. “You know as well as I do… There’s no way for us anymore.”

Eleanore slowly released her grip.

Derrick turned to face her, his voice cool and detached. “I came to thank you in person for standing up for me.”
