Chapter 325
Gordon quickly pulled Katherine aside. “Ms. Chandler, what’s wrong?”
Katherine’s voice was hoarse, her hands trembling uncontrollably. “Is Murray dead? How did he die? What exactly was his relationship with Stella?”
Gordon was taken aback. ‘Wait, does Ms. Chandler know Murray?‘ he thought.
Then he recalled that Katherine and Easton were college mates, so of course, she knew Murray. Gordon wondered why she was crying so sadly.
Gordon said, “Ms. Chandler, try to calm down. We’ve got other urgent things to deal with right now. Why don’t you head home for now? I’ll reach out to you later, alright?”
He fished a pack of tissues out of his pocket and handed them to Katherine. Then he made a quick call, asking one of his team to come in and personally see Katherine out of Foster Group.
Gordon heaved a sigh, thinking to himself, ‘Is there some messy soap opera going on between Katherine and Murray?‘
When he returned to the lounge, he saw Easton sitting at the head of the sofa with an emotionless and distant look. Stella was standing nearby, looking like she could collapse any second, utterly heartbroken.
Seeing Easton remain silent, Stella assumed he was once again feeling guilty over Murray’s death, and she felt a surge of satisfaction inside.
But Easton didn’t even bother with her petty games anymore.
Murray’s death wasn’t entirely his fault, but he couldn’t just shirk responsibility either. That was why he’d always taken it upon himself to look after Murray’s wife and kid.
No matter how many rumors swirled about him and Stella, he just turned a blind eye.
He did it because he couldn’t stand the thought of the woman Murray loved and his only child coming back to Jenston and having to live a life where everyone looked down on them.
Yet Easton had never imagined Stella could be so ruthless. All these years, she’d been using the kid, even hurting him, just to get his attention.
And that wasn’t all. She’d gone after Sophia more than once, and even the accident that happened to Irene at the nursing home was all her doing, she got Chloe to handle it.
Fletcher found out everything when he hacked Alex’s computer this afternoon.
Now Easton finally understood why Sophia hated Stella so much. It wasn’t just because Stella had come between their marriage, but because Stella had actually tried to hurt her and even tried to kill Irene.
Easton sat on the sofa, looking up with a calm that was almost chilling. The neon lights outside cast a cold glow over his face, making his eyes seem even more distant and frosty.
He spoke, his voice cold as steel, “Stella, if Murray ever knew just how vicious you really are, I bet he’d regret ever loving you.
“I do have to take some responsibility for Murray’s death. If I’d known he was heading out alone to sign that deal, I would’ve stopped him.
“But Stella, he only took that project because he wanted to earn more for you, to give you a better life. All these years, when it comes to you and the kid, my conscience is clear.
“You said you wanted to come back to Jenston and make something of yourself, so I brought you back from Menolia while you were pregnant, got you the lead anchor job on TV.
“I let the gossip rags spread rumors about us, no matter how ugly the rumors got. Even when they caught me at your apartment or with the kid, I never once tried to explain myself.
“I just wanted to shield you and the kid from any bad press.
