Sophia took the umbrella he’d given her and headed into the cemetery, making her way straight to her parents‘ tombstones.

Her parents‘ faces in the photos still smiled at her, just as gently as they did back then.

“Dad, Mom, I’m here again,” Sophia said softly.

She squatted down in front of the tombstone and carefully cleaned their portraits with a tissue.

She muttered, “Mom, you always told me how much you loved Dad. You gave up your dream of being a painter for him, and you willingly devoted yourself to our family.

“I always admired the love you shared.

“But why… Why did you have to be the one who killed Dad? Why did you have to tear our family apart yourself?”

Sophia’s voice trembled, her words catching in her throat as emotion overwhelmed her. “Was your relationship with George really as messy and shameful as all those rumors online say?

“Mom, to me, you were always smart, beautiful, gentle, and kind. How did you end up being painted as the villain who destroyed someone’s family in their eyes?

“If you truly cared about George and even had Stella with him, then why did you marry Dad? Why did you bring me into this world?”

Sophia’s voice grew weaker and weaker as she spoke, her bright eyes brimming with tears. “I wish… I’d never come into

this world.”
