340.Chapter 340
During dinner, Derrick kept piling food onto Sophia’s plate. “Derrick, that’s enough. If I eat any more, I’m going to explode,” Sophia joked.
Derrick put down his fork and gave her a gentle poke on the head. “Serves you right. You vanished for days without a word and scared us all half to death.
“You even secretly deleted the tracker I set up for you. Stella and Catherine are both missing. If something really happened to you, how would we even find you? The Weston family, honestly, none of them is good news.
“And like I said, no matter what happens, I will have your back. Seriously, you’ve got two brothers watching out for you. How could you not trust us?”
Sophia knew she’d really scared them this time. She’d never seen Derrick this upset before, and hearing him let loose like that, she could tell it was tough on him.
She didn’t even dare to talk back, just silently ate the food Derrick kept piling onto her plate.
Julian watched from the side, amused and touched. It felt just like when they were kids, with the siblings playfully chiming
in at the dinner table.
Then he raised his glass. “Welcome back, little brother.”
Derrick raised his glass in return. “Thanks, big bro.”
After dinner, Annie and Sophia took Lucas out to play in the backyard. “Sophia, why don’t you move back to the Roth residence? With you and Lucas here, the house feels so lively. You have no idea how happy Edward was today,” Annie said.
Sophia sprinkled some fish food into the pond. “Annie, I found a kindergarten for Lucas near the university district. If we move back to Roth residence now, it’ll be a long commute for him to and from school.”
Sophia put down the fish food and linked arms with Annie. “But don’t worry, Lucas and I will still stay at the Roth residence with you guys for the next few days. You really don’t need to worry about us.
“Julian is doing great, and he’ll be back at Crestview Group soon. As for you, consider how you can help the Roth family grow. Maybe it’s time for you to start planning for a little one of your own.”
Annie’s cheeks flushed bright red at Sophia’s words.
“Well… We’ll just see how things go,” Annie said, her voice soft and a little shy.
At Foster Group, after leaving the hospital, Easton went straight back to the office and buried himself at work. Gordon felt like Easton had turned into his old self again, an emotionless corporate machine.
Even his relationship with Ms. Roth was the same. Gordon thought, ‘After everything Easton and Ms. Roth had been through, with the biggest obstacle finally out of the picture, they would finally have a smooth ride together.
‘But in the end, it was like they were right back where they started.‘
Easton had just wrapped up the Menolia branch project when an unknown number started blowing up his phone. He ignored it at first, but the caller just wouldn’t quit, so, getting fed up, he finally answered.
Before he could say anything, a familiar voice came through. “Easton, it’s me. Bet you didn’t expect to hear from me, did you? That’s right, I’m not dead.
“You know, that night the whole ocean was pitch black. I really thought I was a goner, but I guess the universe wasn’t ready to let me go yet. Guess I’ve got nine lives or something, huh?” Stella said.
Easton didn’t bat an eye, shot the number over to Mr. Lowe, and told him to trace the call quickly.
His voice was cold as ice as he said, “Stella, don’t think you’ve won. Sooner or later, I’ll make sure someone tracks you
down.”
Stella gave a cold snort. “No rush. I’ll be back for revenge. Easton, there’s something that’s been eating at me for years. Since we’re now enemies, there’s no point hiding it anymore.
“The girl who was with you at the clinic back then? That wasn’t me at all.”
