Stella revealed, “All these years, you’ve always asked me why I stopped sketching, right? Well, here’s the truth: I never knew how to draw. The real artist is Sophia.

“So, the girl who kept you company, joked around with you, and gave you all those sketches at the clinic? That was Sophia. “Easton, bet you do not see that coming, huh?” Stella laughed.

Stella hung up right after. Easton sprang to his feet, his head spinning with everything Stella had just dropped on him. His heart felt like it was sinking, heavy as cold lead.

‘How could it have been Sophia?‘ Easton thought, completely thrown.

A sudden ringtone snapped Easton out of his thoughts. He glanced at his phone, and it was Mr. Lowe calling.

“Any luck? Did you find out where she is?” Easton asked.

“Mr. Foster, I’m sorry. We managed to track the phone number somewhere near international waters, but whoever was over there cut off our monitoring almost right away,” Mr. Lowe replied.

‘International waters?‘ Easton thought, his mind racing.

‘Did Stella get picked up by a fishing boat out there after she jumped into the sea that night?‘ he wondered.

Easton clenched his fists. Now that Stella had made it out to international waters, finding her is going to be next to impossible.

“Mr. Lowe, do whatever it takes to find Stella,” Easton ordered.

“Yes, Mr. Foster,” Mr. Lowe replied.

“And one more thing, see if there’s any record of Sophia being admitted to that sanatorium in the eastern suburbs of Jenston fifteen years ago,” Easton added.

“Got it, Mr. Foster. I’ll get someone on it right away and have an answer for you before dawn,” Mr. Lowe said.

Easton walked up to the window and lit up a cigarette. The weight on his chest felt suffocating, like he was being crushed by something he couldn’t see.

Sure enough, just after midnight, Easton’s phone lit up with a message from Mr. Lowe. The list didn’t show Sophia’s name, but Edward had signed off as her family.

The discharge date really was the day before his corneal transplant.

He’d ended up mistaking that girl for Stella because Stella had checked into the hospital right around the time Sophia and he met there.

Easton’s corneal transplant was a total success. Just three months later, his sight was back, and he returned to the Foster family.

Stella made sure to create the chance for the encounter with Easton. Then claimed to be the girl from the sanatorium. She even recounted every detail of Easton and Sophia’s first meeting.

At first, Easton wasn’t convinced. Her voice and height just didn’t seem right.

He even went back to the hospital to ask the nurses, but none of them could tell him the girl’s name. Still, he secretly checked the admission records from that period and found Stella’s name there.

Stella later told Easton that she’d been hospitalized because Nicolas had deliberately pushed her down the stairs.

Back then, Easton felt sorry for her and believed every word she said.

So, all this time, Easton never once suspected Stella was lying. She’d kept up that lie for over a decade.

Staring at the list, Easton figured Edward must have pulled some strings to hide Sophia’s name, not wanting anyone to know she’d been admitted to the sanatorium for depression. He probably told the two caregivers who looked after Sophia to keep her identity under wraps.

Easton realized Stella must’ve known for a long time that she wasn’t Catherine’s daughter, and that Sophia was her half-

sister.

That was why she’d been there at the sanatorium, watching how Easton and Sophia first met.

‘Stella really does plan everything out so carefully,‘ Easton thought.

Easton found himself thinking about what Irene had told him, how lonely Sophia had been living at Silvermoon Bay after their marriage.
