392.Chapter 392
“So she asked me to drop Lucas off at your place this weekend, and you’ll be looking after him for a while.”
Easton’s expression turned grim as he listened to Derrick.
“Is Sophia going to be gone for a long time?” Easton asked.
Derrick kept his eyes on the road while driving. “Hard to say, could be a week, maybe even a few. Word is, this project’s a big deal, and she’s gotta be there in person.”
Easton sounded annoyed. “Aren’t you supposed to be the boss at Rothea Designs? Why are you sending Sophia back instead of handling it yourself?”
Derrick snorted. “Mr. Foster, I’m just a figurehead, okay? Don’t you seriously know Sophia’s the one running the show?
do over there?”
“Plus, I don’t know the first thing about design. What would s
“Okay, got it. I’ll come pick up Lucas tomorrow,” Easton replied.
Derrick grinned. “Sophia’s not really moving abroad. Her work’s all in Japoria, so you’d better get used to her bouncing between Jenston and Japoria.”
Easton knew it deep down, but he couldn’t shake this weird sense of dread creeping in.
He was scared that Sophia might draw a hard line between them, maybe even walk away from their kid just to keep her distance.
After hanging up, Easton slumped back in his seat, his voice flat. “Take me back to Silvermoon Bay.”
By the time Easton got back to Silvermoon Bay, it was already midnight. He picked up the sketchbook Sophia had filled with her drawings and flipped to the last page.
It was a sketch of him in his wedding suit, from the day they got married.
He remembered how miserable he’d felt that day. He hadn’t liked Sophia at all and spent the whole ceremony wearing a scowl.
But in Sophia’s sketch, he looked gentle and handsome. Maybe, in her eyes, that’s who he was.
Easton picked up a pencil, recalling the way Sophia had looked that day. On a fresh page, he began to capture every nuance of her expressions, every smile and glance, sketching her.
The next morning, Easton drove himself to the Roth residence. The maid came out, holding Lucas’s hand.
“Good morning, Mr. Foster. Mr. Derrick Roth has made all the arrangements. I’ve packed up Lucas’s clothes and everything he’ll need,” the maid said.
Easton nodded at her. “Thanks.”
He took Lucas’s hand and helped him into the car, then loaded the suitcase into the trunk.
Once Easton got in the car, he turned to Lucas with a gentle smile. “Let’s go visit Grandpa Edward at the hospital first. Later, I’ll take you to our home.”
Lucas looked up at him with big eyes. “Is it Great-Grandma’s place?”
Lucas
Easton turned around and gave his little hand a gentle tug. “No, it’s the home your mom and I moved into after we got married.”
Lucas nodded, still a bit confused. “Okay.”
When they got to the door of the hospital room, they saw Annie coming out.
“Hi, Annie.” Lucas let go of Easton’s hand and ran over, hugging Annie’s leg.
Annie gave him a loving look and picked him up. “Easton, what brings you and Lucas to the hospital so early?”
Easton gently patted Lucas’s head. “Sophia asked me to take Lucas to stay with me for a while. Since it’s still early, I thought I’d stop by and check on Mr. Roth.”
Annie smiled knowingly. “Edward just woke up. Go on in.”
Holding Lucas, she walked in with Easton.
Edward looked much better and seemed in good spirits. He smiled warmly at Lucas when he saw him.
“Looks like you’re recovering well, Mr. Roth,” Easton said.
Edward nodded at Easton in response.

Annie could tell Easton wanted to talk to Edward alone, so she smiled and said she’d take Lucas out for a walk in the garden.
Once they left, Edward glanced at Easton and said, “Take a seat.”
Easton pulled out the chair by the bed and sat down, keeping his cool. “Mr. Roth, I want to be with Sophia again.”
“Is it because of Lucas?” Edward asked, his tone grave.
Easton shook his head firmly. “No.”
