May nodded. She thought, ‘Ryan really is always busy. And honestly, so am I.’

“So what’s on your mind?” May asked.

“I have no idea,” Sophia said.

May hooked her arm through Sophia’s. “Sophia, you really shouldn’t overthink everything.

“Life’s too short. Just go with your gut and don’t stress so much. If Easton insists on chasing you, do you really think telling him no will make him back off? Not a chance.

“But hey, it’s your life, your choice. I’m just keeping it real. Whatever you decide, I’m always on your side.

“Honestly, I know you better than anyone. You’re just scared after getting burned once, but come on. You’re Sophia Roth! Gorgeous, talented, and the design director at Rothea Designs.

“Are you really gonna let one failed romance keep you from living your life?

“Girl, live in the moment and love yourself more. Men are just the side dish, not the main course. Forget Easton. If you find someone even better, I’ll be cheering you all the way, no questions asked.”

Sophia couldn’t help but laugh at May’s pep talk. “May, does Ryan know you’re secretly a total heartbreaker?”

May laughed quietly. “I’m pretty sure he does. But he climbed aboard my pirate ship all on his own, and now there’s no way

out for him.”

Sophia just shook her head, smiling.

Arrived in Haverton, Sophia and May rolled their suitcases out of the airport, spotting Jason, who had already been waiting outside in a rental car for a while.

“Hey Evan, May, this way!” Jason called out.

Once they hopped in, Jason drove them straight to the hotel. It was way past midnight, so they decided to crash first and save the work talk for the morning.

When they got to the hotel, and Sophia was checking in, May gave her a sheepish grin. “Babe, I’m not bunking with you tonight.”

She held up her phone, showing Sophia a WhatsApp chat. “Ryan’s coming over tomorrow.”

Sophia chuckled, teasing her. “Alright, how about I book you two a fancy presidential suite?”

May grinned from ear to ear. “Ms. Roth, you’re way too generous! How could I refuse?”

Sophia whipped out her black card and quickly booked three suites. Then everyone headed off to their own rooms. Since she had a meeting with Virginia scheduled for the next morning, Sophia took a shower, picked up the documents Jason had put together, and lay back in bed to read through them.

The files were so detailed that Sophia didn’t really need to change a thing.

The next morning, Sophia and Jason headed out to Suncrest Holdings.

Suncrest Holdings was one of the top fifty conglomerates in all of Haverton, and ever since her husband passed away, Virginia had been running the whole show.

When Sophia and Jason arrived in the lobby of Suncrest Holdings, Virginia’s assistant was already waiting for them. “Ms. Roth, Ms. Scott is already waiting for you in her office. This way, please,” the assistant said.

“Thank you,” Sophia replied.

The three of them took the private elevator straight up to the top floor of Suncrest Holdings.

“Ms. Roth, Virginia would like to meet with you alone,” the assistant said.

Sophia nodded, motioning for Jason to wait outside.

Guided by the assistant, Sophia stepped into the chairwoman’s office

“Hello, Virginia,” Sophia greeted.

Successfully unlocked!

The woman at the desk had her back to Sophia, only turning around slowly when she heard Sophia’s voice.
