Easton’s words made Sophia chuckle.

When Easton saw Sophia’s knowing smile, all the frustration he’d felt on the way melted away. He leaned in and kissed her gently on the lips. “Let’s go home.”

Sophia nodded.

By the time they got home, it was almost midnight. Just as Sophia reached the stairs, Easton scooped her up into his arms.

“Ah,” Sophia yelped.

Easton chuckled quietly. “Mrs. Foster, save your calls for later. It’s late. Do you want to wake up all the staff?” he teased.

Sophia was startled; ‘who knew you’d suddenly pick me up like that?’ she thought. She’d only cried out because she was caught off guard.

“Put me down! What if they come out and see us?” she whispered urgently.

Easton leaned in and kissed her, holding her tight. “If you keep talking, you’re definitely going to wake them up.”

Sophia froze for a moment.

Late at night, Sophia watched Easton sleeping peacefully beside her and let out a silent sigh.

‘Easton, why do you always have so much trouble with women?’ she thought to herself.

The next day, back at Crestview, May hit Sophia up and invited her to get their nails done together that afternoon.

Sophia had nothing much going on recently, so she said yes without hesitation

At lunch, she told Derrick and Julian she’d be out for the afternoon.

She pulled up outside Brightway Law Firm.

Sophia pulled out her phone and called May, “Hey, I’m here. Come on down.”

A few minutes later, May hopped into Sophia’s car, buckled up, and teased, “Sophia, looks like something’s bugging you.”

Sophia nodded, not denying it. “Yeah, I’m kind of stressed.”

May had seen the news yesterday, and knowing Sophia, she could tell Sophia was keeping things to herself, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t bothered.

Now that she had some free time, she wanted to keep Sophia company and talk things out.

“It’s so weird. The research center is usually super strict about security.” May said.

She continued, “Even if yesterday was an open day for the Cedarica officials, how did a whole crowd of people with such hostile looks just walk right in? Were the security guards just there for show?”

“And then, during the negotiation, it was just Allison, a woman, going down to the lobby to talk to them alone. Wasn’t she worried those people might do something to her?” Sophia added.

Sophia shared her doubts with May.

May nodded and said, “Even if it was an open day and the place was packed, let’s just say the security guards missed it. But what about Allison? She knew those agents were there to cause trouble.

“Any normal person, especially a woman, would be worried they might start something or even hurt her. But she just went up to them all by herself, like she wasn’t afraid of anything. Honestly, that’s pretty sketchy.

“Sophia, and don’t forget. She’s totally into Easton. Even if she knows you two are together, who knows what she’s really thinking? With a guy like Easton, some women would jump at the chance to be his side chick.”

Sophia pressed her lips together.

“I watched that video from yesterday super closely. Allison was holding onto Easton for dear life. If that had been Ryan, I’d have lost it and smacked him. But you? You were so chill,” May teased.

She glanced at the red mark on Sophia’s neck and continued, “Wow, Easton’s living the dream. Not only did he not get scolded when he got home last night, he actually got lucky.”

Sophia froze for a moment.
