“You’re totally jealous! Just tell Easton straight up, if you don’t like Allison, show her you’re the real queen here and send her packing back to Menolia. Seriously, it’s not a big deal. I bet Easton would do whatever you ask.”

“You think it’s that simple?” Sophia snorted, “Allison just scored major points to save Easton, and her dad’s basically his mentor. If I did that, I’d look so petty. She’d probably be secretly thrilled, thinking I’m obsessed with her as a rival.”

May couldn’t help but laugh, “Girl, you’ve been watching way too many palace dramas lately. You even know all about the mentor’s daughter trope.”

May sighed, “Yeah, it’s tricky. Allison’s dad is Easton’s mentor. Even if you can’t stand her, you gotta respect her dad.” Then they headed into the salon, where the nail artist they’d booked had already been waiting in the VIP suite for a while. May helped Sophia pick out a stylish design, and Sophia nodded. “Looks good, let’s do this one.”

After their nails were done, Sophia leaned back in the massage chair, closing her eyes to relax.

“Sophia, honestly, you should give Easton a few subtle reminders when you need to. Men aren’t as perceptive as we are, and Allison works at Foster Group, so she’s around him all the time.” May said.

She continued, “Even if it’s not Stella or Allison, there’ll always be someone else popping up. Are you really going to let every new girl stress you out?”

Sophia understood what May was saying, but honestly, she was just tired of dealing with all this drama.

“Honestly, Easton’s been through the same thing you have. Every time you get caught up in some gossip with Mr. Hayes, he looks so miserable. But he’s nowhere near as composed as you are.” May said.

“Whenever I see Easton around Frank, it’s like he wants to eat him alive,” she teased.

Sophia was speechless.

But after this whole incident, Sophia started seeing Allison differently. On the surface, Allison always acted super friendly and helpful, but deep down, she was anything but simple.

Thinking back on all their past interactions, Sophia couldn’t shake the feeling. Had Allison just been pretending all along?

“Mr. Foster, I subtly asked Allison about it. Turns out, she was the only legal counsel in the research center office at the time. Her assistant had already left for the courthouse.” Gordon explained

He added, “She figured there were security guards in the lobby, so even if those people made a fuss, it wouldn’t be that easy for them to actually hurt her.”

“She just wanted to wrap things up quickly and report back to the company, so she went down to the lobby alone to talk to them,” Gordon just returned from Cedarica and was reporting yesterday’s events to Easton.

Easton tapped his cigarette ash into the ashtray. “Did you get all the details on those troublemakers?” he asked.

Gordon nodded. “The agents admitted at the station that they went overboard and paid some people to cause a scene.” He added, “They just wanted Foster Group to give them answers, but they never expected one of those guys to be so extreme and actually have a weapon on him. The guy who attacked Allison has been detained, and he’s taking the fall for the assault.”

Easton’s face darkened. He ordered, “Run a thorough background check on the attacker. See if he’s been talking to anyone shady, or if there’s anything weird with his money lately. Maybe someone’s pulling the strings behind all this.”
