BO Chapter 80
80.Chapter 80
Sophia couldn’t quite figure out what Easton was playing at. That teasing, almost mocking smile of his was driving her crazy. After a couple of seconds of awkward silence, she reluctantly took the coat from his hand.
“The traffic cops have closed the case. Your car and Stella’s will both go through the usual insurance process,” Easton replied, sounding almost indifferent, like this was nothing worth mentioning.
Sophia let out a faint, knowing smile. “Easton, do you really think it was just a regular accident?”
Easton’s eyes never left her face. When he heard Sophia’s words, his expression turned darker, shadows deepening in his gaze. “So you really think Stella would risk her own neck just to fake an accident with your car?”
Sophia smirked. “You just took the traffic cops’ conclusion at face value without even questioning why the highway cameras just happened to go dark at that exact moment. And weirdly enough, both our cars’ dashcams were busted right then and there.
“Mr. Foster, are you really chalking all this up to coincidence, or are you just blindly swallowing whatever story your Stella feeds you?” Sophia pressed.
Every word she spoke was practically pointing fingers. She was making it crystal clear this was no random mishap, but a dirty setup. Any fool could see she was talking about Stella.
When Easton heard Sophia say, “your Stella,” his face tightened up, looking even grimmer. “I trust what the traffic cops and highway guys said.
“As for the dashcams, the insurance company made it clear-they were busted in the crash, plain and simple. Sophia, you can’t just blame Stella for everything just because you don’t like her,” Easton replied, his tone carrying a hint of impatience.
Sophia gave a cold, mocking laugh. “Sure, you believe everything your girlfriend says, huh? Fine, if that’s how you see it, then there’s no point in wasting breath. Just tell Irene I’ve got things to handle and I’ll drop by in a couple of days.”
With that, Sophia strode past Easton and left the room. ‘What a jerk! You totally deserve to get played for a fool, Sophia fumed to herself.
Back by her car, Sophia glanced over at the entrance of the nursing home, feeling miserable. All those stupid hopes she’d had before just made her feel ridiculous now.
‘As if Easton would ever care about me. The truth is, the only person he ever gives a damn about is Stella; Sophia thought, her heart sinking.
Just now, any time she called Stella out for anything, Easton’s whole vibe flipped on a dime. It was like mentioning Stella was some mortal sin.
‘Get real, Sophia. Who are you kidding?’ she mocked herself. ‘He’s the mighty CEO of Foster Group, the richest man in Jenston-like he’d ever catch feelings for some ex-wife he couldn’t care less about now.’
Sophia let that thought stew, a bitter smirk on her face as she glanced down at the suit jacket hanging over her arm. Her irritation flared. She stuffed the jacket right into a trash can by the curb. Only then did she feel lighter.
As Easton watched Sophia leave, irritation boiled inside him. He tugged at his tie and sat down heavily on the couch, brooding in silent frustration.
Just then, Grace helped Irene into the room. “Honestly, it’s no wonder you’re still single after all this time. You can’t even say the right things, and you mess up everything else.”
Easton looked up, a stormy look in his eyes. “Were you eavesdropping the whole time?” Easton shot back, trying to hide just how rattled he was.
“I went out of my way to set up a chance for you two to get along, and of course, you found a way to screw it up,” Irene grumbled, sounding more exasperated than angry.

“Irene, please don’t do things like this again. If Sophia finds out, she won’t be happy about it,” Easton said, his voice low and a little frustrated.
Irene huffed, her tone sharp. “Seriously, who do you think I’m doing all this for? It’s for you, obviously.”
