84 Chapter 84
84.Chapter 84
“Sophia, that was epic! I swear Stella’s probably so mad her chest actually hurts right now,” May burst out laughing. To May, Sophia always came off as the girl who’s sweet on the outside and seems to get what everyone’s feeling.
But deep down, she was stubborn as hell, loved fiercely, hated just as strongly, and always knew where she stood. Sophia wasn’t one to start drama, but she sure never backed down from it. May knew she wouldn’t let Stella walk all over her.
Sophia let out a soft chuckle. “Who knows if she’s actually hurting, but I do know life at the station’s been pretty rough for her these days. Gossip’s running wild. It’s about time she got a taste of humble pie.
“Still, with her talent for surviving drama, she’ll probably handle it soon enough. She’s busy clinging to Easton’s coattails, but if the rumors spread, she could end up with nothing at all.”
May smirked, thinking aloud. “True, with all of Stella’s double-dealing, this stuff is just a minor setback for her. But snatching away that prime-time news anchor spot she’s been chasing? Man, that feels way too good.”
“You bet,” Sophia replied with a light smile.
Just as they finished their call, Emily walked in. “Ms. Roth, the meeting with the Maritime Authority is scheduled for three this afternoon.”
Sophia glanced at her phone and then nodded. “Just to be safe, make sure we’re all set. We’ll head over thirty minutes early.”
“Got it,” Emily replied.
At the Maritime Authority, Emily and Sophia parked and got out. From across the lot, Nicolas immediately spotted Sophia.
With a satisfied smirk, Nicolas nudged his friend. “Told you, ever since I took over the shipping department, I’ ve been bumping into Sophia left and right. Here we are. I ran into her again at the Maritime Authority.”
His buddy chuckled. “Mr. Weston, you sure know how to make things go your way.”
“See if you can find out what she’s doing here today,” Nicolas said, turning to his assistant.
“On it,” the assistant replied.
Nicolas and his buddy headed inside to take care of business. A few minutes later, the assistant hurried back. Mr. Weston, Ms. Roth’s here for a meeting. It starts at three.”
Nicolas narrowed his eyes. “Let’s deal with our own stuff first. Once it’s almost time, I’ll go over and corner her.”
When Sophia walked into the conference room, she absent-mindedly noticed Easton sitting confidently at the head of the table, deep in discussion with the Maritime Authority’s director.
She made no move to greet him, opting instead for a seat well away from them. Emily trailed after her, quietly carrying the files and, as always, simply sat wherever Sophia chose.
Sophia was focused, scribbling notes across her documents, while Easton couldn’t help but cast glances in her direction. The director of the Maritime Authority picked up on the tension and smiled awkwardly. “Mr. Foster, would you like me to switch Ms. Roth’s seat?”
Easton’s face stayed unreadable, but he gave a slight nod of agreement.
“Ms. Roth, your seat for Crestview Group is already prepared. Please, let me show you,” the director offered. Sophia felt absolutely unwilling, but with this crowd, there was no way she could turn it down. She gave a gentle smile, gathered her papers, and said, “Much appreciated.”
Sophia, with Emily in tow, headed over to the seats reserved for Crestview Group, just down from the main spot at the table.
Even though Sophia and Easton were sitting just a few seats apart, the whole meeting went by with barely a glance or a word between them.

84 Chapter 84
Once Sophia locked in on work, it didn’t matter what kind of noise or drama was happening around her. She was in her own world, focused like nothing else existed.
Having worked with Sophia for nearly two months, Emily genuinely admired this about her. No matter what, Sophia’s concentration never wavered.
Once the meeting wrapped up, Sophia handed off all the follow-up tasks to Emily. She had to rush back to Crestview Group. Rothea Designs’s client was coming in.
