Chapter 1 She Had Been Reborn
“Amelia, go to hell!”
* Finish
On the cruise ship deck, Sophia Bennett raised a razor–sharp dagger and drove it straight at the frail girl’s chest.
Amelia’s eyes were blank and unfocused. The second the blade came at her, pure survival instinct made he grab it with both hands. “Sophia… you already took my corneas. Why can’t you leave me alone?”
“Leave you alone?” Sophia gave a cold laugh, her eyes dark with hate. “You’re the real Bennett heiress. As long as you’re breathing, you’re a threat. The only way I ever feel safe is if you’re dead.”
She yanked the dagger hard, but the second she spotted someone coming, she let go on purpose.
The knife slipped, momentum slicing deep across Sophia’s own wrist.
Sophia screamed as blood poured out.
“Sophia! Are you okay?”
Amelia’s oldest brother, Alexander Bennett, came running and pulled Sophia into his arms.
“She tried to kill me,” Sophia sobbed, tears streaming down her face like a perfect victim. “She hates me for having her corneas… Alexander, maybe I should give them back. I’m so scared…”
“Don’t worry, baby. I’ve got you. Nobody’s ever gonna hurt you again,” he whispered, holding her tight.
Amelia’s second brother, Julian, stormed out and cracked her across the face so hard her head slammed into the railing. “Who the hell do you think you are, putting your hands on Sophia?”
Before Amelia could even catch her breath, her third brother, Lucas, snatched the dagger and plunged it straight into her chest. “Now you get to feel what you tried to do to her!”
He ripped the blade out, blood spraying across his furious face.
Amelia’s white dress turned scarlet. Her face went ghost pale, eyes empty with despair. “I’m your real sister… why… cough… why are you-”
Her father, William Bennett, kicked her square in the chest before she could finish. “I wish I’d never had you. You don’t deserve the Bennett name.”
The force sent her flying backward over the railing. Her small body tumbled through the air like a broken butterfly, white skirt fluttering, blood trailing behind her as she plunged into the ocean.
Everything went black. She couldn’t see a thing anymore, but she could hear them—all of them–fu du over Sophia with the gentle voices they’d never once used on her.
She was their real daughter. They’d forced her to give Sophia her corneas, left her blind, refused to listen, stabbed her, and kicked her into the sea like trash.
“Amelia fell overboard…” Sophia put on a sad voice.
“She tried to murder you–good riddance.”
“Exactly. That toxic bitch didn’t deserve to live anyway.”
