Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 12
CHAPTER 10-1
Stared at the apartment door for several seconds. Jace hadn’t knocked loudly asnd he hadn’t called my phone.
He hadn’t tried forcing his way into a conversation I wasn’t ready to have.
He’d simply knocked once, quietly spoken my name and waited.
That alone told me more about him than anything we’d discussed over the past week.
I wiped my face with the sleeve of my shirt before unlocking the door and Jace stood in the
hallway holding two takeaway coffee cups.
“I guess.” He said as I looked from him to the cups.
“You guessed what?” I asked.
“That coffee might be safer than flowers.” He said and a laugh escaped before I could stop it.
“You remember Tyler.” I said.
“It’s hard not to.” He said and I stepped aside.
“You’d better come in before the coffee gets cold.” I said.
He walked inside taking a slow look around the apartment without making it obvious. It wasn’t
much to see. A small lounge room, a worn sofa, a second hand dining table, an old bookshelf and a
kitchen barely large enough for one person.
Everything was clean and everything had a purpose and Jace handed me one of the coffees.
“I wasn’t sure how you take it.” He said.
“Black.” I said and he smiled faintly.
“I guessed right.” He said.
“You gamble often?” I asked.
“Only when the odds look good.” He said.
I sat on the sofa while he chose the old armchair opposite me.
For several minutes neither of us spoke and surprisingly, the silence wasn’t awkward.
It was…comfortable. So I wrapped both hands around the warm cup.
“I suppose you came to make sure I hadn’t thrown myself dramatically off the balcony.” I said.
“I figured you’d land on the workshop roof.” He said and I nodded thoughtfully.
That would ruin the gutters.” I said.
“I was think more about you.” He said.
