Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 143
CHAPTER 89-T
The closer we got to town, the thicker the smoke became, and the peaceful feeling I had carried back from the lake disappeared beneath a growing knot of fear.
Jace kept the motorcycle moving quickly, although he stayed careful around the corners, and I held tightly around his waist while I watched the dark smoke climbing above the buildings.
“Where is it?” I asked.
“I don’t know yet.” He said.
“You think it’s the club?” I asked.
“I think we need to find out.” He said.
As we reached the edge of town, sirens became audible, and several emergency vehicles passed us in the opposite direction.
Jace followed them and when we finally turned onto the road leading toward one of the Iron Vipers’ towing depots, my stomach dropped.
Flames were still visible through the thick smoke. The depot was burning.
Firefighters had surrounded the building, and hoses were stretched across the road while water poured against the remaining flames. Several people stood behind the barriers, watching helplessly as smoke rolled across the sky.
Jace pulled the motorcycle over and I climbed off before he had completely removed his helmet.
“Stay close to me.” He said.
“I will.” I said.
We moved toward the crowd, and I recognized several employees immediately. One of them was standing beside a pickup truck with both hands pressed against his head.
“What happened?” I asked as he looked at me.
“We don’t know.” He said as his voice cracked.
“I was inside the office when somebody smelled smoke, and then the whole back section went up.” He explained.
“Are you hurt?” I asked and he shook his head.
“No.” He said.
“Anyone else?” I asked.
“No.” He said and I released a breath.
“Thank God.” I said.

Jace was already speaking with several club members, and I could see the anger building in their faces. Nobody had been hurt, but that didn’t make the destruction easier to look at.
The depot had been one of the club’s busiest towing locations, and part of the building was already blackened from the Tire
Firefighters continued working, and every few minutes another burst of water hit the flames.
I stayed with the employees while Jace moved closer to the building and one of the younger workers sat
on the curb.
“I don’t know what we’re going to do.” He said so I crouched beside him.
“You’re going to rebuild.” I said as he looked at me.
“You think so?” He asked.
“I know so.” I said.
“But everything is gone.” He said.
“Not everything.” I said as I pointed toward the people around us.
“You’ve still got everyone who works here.” I said and he looked toward the club members.
“They’re already talking about rebuilding.” He said.
“Exactly.” I said and he wiped his face.
“I’ve only worked here eight months.” He said.
“Then you’ve got plenty of time to make another eight months of memories.” I said and he gave me a weak
smile.
“I guess.” He said.
“You don’t have to figure everything out tonight.” I said and he nodded.
“Thank you.” He said.
I squeezed his shoulder before standing and another employee approached me.
“Paige.” He said so I turned around.
“Yeah?” I asked.
“I can’t believe this happened.” He said.
“I know.” I said.
“We just had the other problems with the shop, and now this.” He said and I looked toward the burning building.
“Someone wants to scare us.” I said and he frowned.
“Do you think it’s the Black Reapers?” He asked.
