Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 149
CHAPTER 92-1
I stared at the empty space on the motel dresser where the trophy had been and although losing the award hurt, that wasn’t what made my blood run cold. It wasn’t about the trophy.
The award had meant everything to me because it belonged to Uncle Will’s memory and I had been proud when they placed it in my hands, but whoever had taken it hadn’t done it because they wanted a piece of metal.
They had done it because they wanted me to know they could get to me. Someone had entered our motel room while we were sleeping.
Someone had moved through our space without waking either of us. Someone had taken the one thing they knew would matter and I turned toward Jace.
“They were inside our room.” I said and his expression hardened.
“I know.” He said.
“They could have taken anything.” I said.
“I know.” He said.
“They could have hurt us.” I said.
Jace stepped closer and his hands settled firmly around my arms.
“But they didn’t.” He said.
“That doesn’t make me feel better.” I said.
“I know.” He said and I pulled away and grabbed my clothes.
“We need to find out how they got in.” I said.
“We will.” He said.
I showered quickly in the motel bathroom, brushed my teeth, pulled on my jeans and a clean shirt, and tied my hair back while Jace called Derek.
The motel room suddenly felt too small. Every shadow seemed suspicious, and every sound from the hallway made me turn toward the door.
When I stepped back into the room, Jace was standing beside the dresser.
“Derek’s on his way.” Jace said.
“Good.” I said and he looked at me.
“You okay?” He asked.
“I’m angry.” I said.
“I know.” He said.

I’m not going to sit here and pretend this is nothing.” I said.
“I don’t want you to.” He said as I grabbed my bag.
“Let’s go.” I said.
We checked out of the motel and drove straight to Lawson Customs, where Derek and Hunter were already waiting.

Derek had brought the security footage from the motel and the moment we entered the office, he pulled it up on the monitor.
“Start from midnight.” Jace said and Derek nodded.
The first camera showed the motel parking lot. Cars came and went. Guests walked through the entrance. Nothing looked unusual.
The second camera showed the hallway outside our room. I leaned closer to the screen arid for hours, nothing happened. Nobody approached our door.
Nobody stopped outside. Nobody appeared to enter and then I frowned.
“Wait.” I said and Derek paused the footage.
“What?” He asked.
“Go back.” I said so he rewound it and I pointed at the screen.
“That person.” I said.
A figure had appeared briefly at the far end of the hallway. The image was grainy, and the person’s face couldn’t be seen clearly so Derek zoomed in. And the figure disappeared around the corner.
“Can you enhance that?” I asked.
“I’ll try.” Derek said.
He worked on the footage for several minutes but the image remained useless. The person wore dark clothing and a baseball cap, while their face stayed hidden beneath the angle of the camera.
“Nothing.” Derek muttered.
“Can you see where they went?” I asked.
“No.” He said.
He switched to another camera and the hallway remained empty. The stairwell showed nothing and the motel entrance showed nothing. The parking lot showed nothing useful and I folded my arms.
“So someone walks down the hallway, disappears from the cameras and somehow gets into our room.” I said and Derek looked at the screen.
“That’s what it looks like.” Derek said.
“That doesn’t make sense.” I said.
