Summary for Chapter 150: Ride With Me (Paige and Jace)

Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 150

CHAPTER 92-2

“That means someone was watching us.” Jacè said.

I hated hearing him say it because I’d already been thinking the same thing and the security footage gave us almost nothing and the person who had entered our room had left no obvious trail behind.

Then Derek received a call and he listened for several seconds before looking toward Jace.

“Diesel’s here.” I said as Jace nodded.

“Let’s try him.” Jace said.

We headed outside, where Diesel was already waiting with one of the club members.

Derek crouched beside him and gave him the scent from a piece of fabric taken from the motel room. Diesel sniffed it carefully and then he started moving.

We followed him across the property, through the parking lot, and toward the road. He paused beside one of the motel’s side entrances before continuing toward the street and my heart began pounding.

“He’s got something.” I said and Derek nodded.

Diesel crossed the road and continued along the pavement. He moved quickly for several minutes before slowing near an intersection.

He sniffed the ground. Then he moved toward a parked vehicle. He circled it once before turning away and Derek followed.

“Come on, Diesel.” Derek said.

The dog continued down the road, but his movements became less certain. Traffic had passed through the area all morning, and dozens of different scents covered the pavement.

Diesel stopped again and he sniffed the ground several times before looking back at Derek. The trail was gone and Derek sighed.

“He lost it.” Derek said and I stared down the road.

“How far did he get?” I asked.

“Far enough to tell us they left this way.” He said.

“That’s not enough.” I said.

“I know.” He said and I crossed my arms.

“We need more.” I said and Jace stepped beside me.

“We’ll get it.” He said and I looked at him.

“How?” I asked.

“We start with the motel.” He said and Derek nodded.

l find out who was working that night and whether anyone used a master key.” Derek said and Hunter glanced toward the road.

“I’ll check nearby businesses for cameras.” Hunter said and Jace looked at me.

“You should go home.” Jace said and I shook my head.

“No.” I said.

“Paige.” He said.

“I’m not sitting alone somewhere while everyone else works.” I said and his expression softened.

“Fine.” He said and I smiled slightly.

“Thank you.” I said.

We returned inside, and I started checking the motel information on my phone while Derek worked through the footage again. The hours passed slowly.

By afternoon, I was exhausted. I washed my hands, made myself a coffee, and sat at the desk while Jace stood behind me.

“I keep thinking about the trophy.” I said and he looked down at me.

“I know.” He said.

“They knew I had it.” I said.

“Probably.” He said.

“They knew we were staying at that motel.” I said.

“Yes.” He said.

“They knew when we’d be asleep.” I said and Jace’s expression hardened.

“Yes.” He said and I turned in the chair.

“This wasn’t random.” I said.

“No.” He said.

“They wanted something from us.” I said.

“Maybe.” He said.

“What?” I asked as he hesitated.

“Maybe they weren’t after the trophy.” He said and I stared at him.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Maybe they wanted to see what else we had.” He said and my stomach tightened.

“Like Uncle Will’s journal?” I asked.

Jace didn’t answer and I immediately stood.

“We need to check it.” I said.

We hurried toward the office where Ben had been looking through the old journal earlier. He wasn’t there and I found him several minutes later near the workshop, carrying the weathered notebook.

“Ben.” I said and he looked up.

“Paige.” He said.

“Where were you?” I asked.

“I was checking the journal.” He said and my heart started pounding.

“Did you find anything?” I asked making him hesitate.

“That’s why I came looking for you.” He said and Jace stepped closer.

“What happened?” Jace asked.

Ben opened the journal and began turning pages.

“I was comparing the entries with the copies we already made.” He said and his expression changed.

“There’s something wrong.” He added so I moved beside him.

“What?” I asked so he carefully turned another page.

“This page was here yesterday.” He said as I stared at the empty space between two entries and my stomach dropped.

“What page?” I asked.

“Another page is missing.” He said and Jace’s face hardened.

“Which one?” I asked causing Ben to look at me.

“The page that came after the entry about the old club contacts.” He said.

I remembered the earlier pages, the names, the strange notes and the warnings Uncle Will had left behind.

“What was on it?” I asked.
