ooked up at the freshly painted Lawson Customs signs resting across two sawhorses.

The faded lettering was gone and the deep blue background had been restored, the white lettering looking crisp again and the small gold pinstripe around the edge matched the original perfectly.

And for a moment I couldn’t speak.

“It… It looks exactly like it used to.” I said and Derek wiped paint from his hands.

“We found an old photo in your office.” Derek said and my eyes widened.

“The one with Uncle Will standing out front?” I asked and nodded.

“We figured he’d probably want it looking the same.” Derek said.

I ran my fingertips gently across the edge of the sign and it felt brand new.

For just a second I could almost imagine Uncle Will stepping out of the workshop wiping his hands

on a rag and proudly hanging it back above the roller door.

My throat tightened and I blinked several times before anyone could notice.

“You guys are unbelievable.” I said and Hunter smiled.

“We hear that a lot.” Hunter said.

“I’m serious.” I said.

“So are we.” He said.

For the first time in a long time Lawson Customs didn’t feel wounded. It felt alive again.

By late afternoon the new sign was hanging proudly above the roller door and the replacement

window gleamed in the sunlight and fresh paint covered every trace of the graffiti.

Lawson Customs looked better than it had in years and I disappeared into the office and returned carrying an envelope.

“I can’t let all of you do this for free.” I said and Jace looked at the envelop before shaking his head.

“No.” He said.

“I wasn’t asking.” He frowned and Hunter laughed.

“That’s cute.” Hunter said.

“What is?” I asked.

“You think we’re taking your money.” He said and I held the envelope out again.

“You bought paint, lumber, glass and enough supplies to rebuild half the place.” I said.
