Summary for Chapter 188: Ride With Me (Paige and Jace)

Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 188

CHAPTER 111-2

But I couldn’t return to normal. Sornething had changed.

That evening, I started changing my routine.

I didn’t leave Lawson Customs at the same time. I didn’t take the same road to the clubhouse.

I stopped at a grocery store I hadn’t visited in months, and after leaving, I took a longer route toward the clubhouse.

The next morning, I changed everything again.

Instead of getting coffee at the usual place, I stopped somewhere else. Instead of arriving at the garage at seven, I arrived at eight. Instead of leaving for lunch at noon, I stayed inside and ate at my desk and Mia noticed almost immediately.

“You’ve changed your schedule.” She said as I looked up.

“Just being careful.” I said and she nodded.

“Because of yesterday?” She asked.

“Yes.” I said and she didn’t question me.

“I think that’s smart.” She said so I smiled faintly.

“I hate that you agree.” I said and she laughed.

“You’ll get used to it.” She said.

I hoped she was wrong. I didn’t want to get used to being watched. I wanted my old routine back. I wanted to wake up, shower, brush my teeth, drive to work, open the shop, fix motorcycles, laugh with Mia and Ben, and go home without wondering who might be following me.

Instead, I started checking mirrors. I started parking in different places. I started asking Jace to meet me when I could.

It wasn’t fear exactly. It was awareness. The kind that never completely switched off.

That afternoon, Diesel became unusually restless.

He paced around the clubhouse, stopped near the windows, and growled whenever a vehicle slowed outside and I crouched beside him.

“What is it?” I asked as he looked toward the window.

His ears remained pointed forward and Jace walked into the room.

“He’s been doing that all afternoon.” Jace said and I looked at him.

“Do you think he smells someone?” I asked.

“Maybe.” He said.

Diesel walked toward the back door and sniffed along the bottom edge.

Jace opened it slightly, and Diesel immediately stepped outside.

He sniffed the ground before moving toward the fence and then he stopped and his body stiffened so I followed Jace outside.

“What does he smell?” I asked as Jace rouched beside him.

“I don’t know.” Jace said as Diesel looked toward the road.

Then he growled and a vehicle drove past. Diesel watched it until it disappeared and I wrapped my arms around myself.

“This is getting ridiculous.” I said as Jace stood.

“I know.” He said.

“I don’t want to live like this.” I said.

“You won’t.” He said and I looked at him.

“How can you promise that?” I asked.

“Because we’re going to find whoever is behind it.” He said,”

I wanted to believe him. I really did.

Later that night, I sat on the edge of the bed while Jace showered and I checked my phone.

There were no new messages. No calls. Nothing.

That should have made me feel better. Instead, the silence made me more nervous.

Someone had been watching me. Someone had photographed Lawson Customs. Someone had broken. into the salvage yard. And someone had sent us warnings.

I put the phone down when Jace walked out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist, and I smiled despite myself.

“You look worried.” He said.

“I am.” I said as he sat beside me.

“Come here.” He said and I leaned against him and he wrapped his arms around me.

For a while, neither of us spoke. Then my phone buzzed and I reached for it.

A message from an unknown number appeared.

Changing your routine won’t keep you safe.

My blood ran cold and Jace read it over my shoulder. His expression hardened.

“They’re watching you closely.” He said.

“Apparently.” I said.

Across town, Victor Kane sat inside his office while one of his men stood across from him.

“Give me the report. Victor said as the man handed him a folder and Victor opened it.

“She’s changing her routine.” Victor said.

“Yes.” The man said.

“Different routes?” Victor asked.

“Every day.” The man said.

“Different arrival times?” Victor asked.
