The Black Reapers rode past the garage again the next morning. Four motorcycles, the same
black leather cuts and the same slow speed.

None of them looked toward the garage and none of them stepped. They just simply rolled past
before disappearing around the corner.
I watched through the office window until the sound of their engines faded into the distance..
“That twice in two days.” I muttered and Ben looked up from sorting spark plugs.
“Friends of yours?” He asked and I turned to look at him.
“If they are I clearly need better taste in friends.” I said.
He chuckled before returning to the shelves and business carried on as though nothing had
happened.
Mrs. Henderson dropped off her son’s dirt bike after school and George stopped in for his usual coffee and somehow managed to convince Ben that every mechanic had accidentally installed an engine backwards at least once and Ben looked horrified.
“You’ve done that?” Ben asked.
“Twice.” George said keeping a perfectly straight face and I had to turn away before I laughed.
George winked at me while Ben hurried back to work, clearly trying to decide whether George was
serious.
“He believed you.” I said.
“It builds character.” George shrugged.
“It also builds builds trust issues.” I said.
“I’ve got penty of those already.” George said grinning over the rim of his coffee cup.
The morning stayed busy and I almost forgot about the Black Reapers until another deep rumble echoed echoss the parking lot.
I looked up automatically and this time there were five motorcycles and they passed just as as slowly as before.
“Same guys?” Ben asked.
“Looks like it.” I said.

CHAPTER 14-1
“They’re creeping me out.” He said.
“They’re probably just lost.” I said and Ben raised an eyebrow.
“Three times?” He asked.
“Maybe they bought the world’s worst GPS.” I said.

A familiar pickup truck pulled into the parking lot a few minutes later and Hunter climbed out carrying a box of oil filters.
“You’ve got company.” Hunter said.
“I’ve noticed.” I said and he followed my gaze toward the highway.
“They’re been through town again?” Hunter asked.
“A few times already today.” I said and the smile slipped from his face.
“Anyone stop?” Hunter asked.
“No.” I said.
“Anybody say anything?” He asked.
“No.” I said.
Hunter set the box on the counter before walking to the front window and he stood there quietly
for a few seconds.
“They’re counting.” He said.
“What?” I frowned.
“They’re watching who comes and goes.” Hunter said and I looked toward the highway again.
“You got all of that from four motorcycles driving past?” I asked.
“I’ve been doing this a long time.” He said.
His voice sounded strange. It didn’t carry any of the joking tone he usually had and that caught my
attention more than anything else.
An hour later Jace arrived and he didn’t come in carrying coffee this time.
Instead, Hunter quietly stepped outside and spoke to him before either of them entered the
workshop.
This expressions told me enough and something had changed.
