Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 201
CHAPTER 118-1
I knew something was wrong the moment I opened my apartment door.
Nothing looked broken, and nothing appeared to be missing, but the place felt different in a way I couldn’t immediately explain.
I stood in the doorway with my keys still in my hand, and I slowly looked around the living room.
The cushions were slightly out of place. One of the books on the coffee table had been moved.
A drawer beneath the television was open by a few inches, and I knew I had closed it before leaving that
morning.
“Jace?” I said.
He was standing behind me, and I felt him immediately move closer.
“What?” He asked.
“Don’t come inside yet.” I said as he stopped.
“Why?” He asked as I pointed toward the living room.
“Something’s wrong.” I said.
Jace’s expression changed, and he stepped forward carefully.
Derek was with us, and he immediately moved toward the hallway while Jace checked the main room.
I stayed near the doorway, because suddenly walking into my own apartment felt like stepping into someone else’s space so Jace looked back at me.
“Stay here.” He said.
“I’m not going anywhere.” I said.
He checked the kitchen first, then the bathroom, and finally the bedroom and Derek followed behind him.
“Nobody’s here.” Derek said as Jace nodded.
“Check the windows.” Jace said.
Derek moved through the apartment again while I finally stepped inside.
The first thing I noticed was the bedroom. My closet doors were open.
Clothes had been pushed aside, and one of my storage boxes had been pulled down from the shelf so I
walked toward it.
“They searched this.” I said as Jace came beside me.
“Yes.” He said as I looked at the drawers.

Several were open, and my clothes had been moved around. Nothing appeared to be missing. My jewelry was still there. My laptop was still on the desk. My television was still mounted on the wall.
Even the cash I kept hidden inside a small box was untouched.
“They didn’t steal anything. I said as Derek looked around.
“Then they weren’t here for valuables. Derek said.
“They were looking for something.” I said as Jace’s eyes met mine.
“Probably.” Jace said.
That word made my skin crawl.
I walked into the bathroom, and even there, the signs were obvious. The cabinet beneath the sink was open, and bottles had been moved around.
Someone had gone through everything. Someone had touched my things.
I felt sick.
“This is my home.” I said as Jace stepped closer.
“I know.” He said.
“They had no right to be here.” I said.
“I know.” He said as I looked at him.
“How did they get inside?” I asked as Derek came toward us.
“Could have been a copied key, picked lock, or someone who already had access.” Derek said.
“Nobody has my key.” I said as Jace looked at me.
“Are you sure?” He asked.
“I’ve never given one to anyone.” I said and he nodded.
“We’ll change the locks.” He said.
“I can do that.” I said.
“I know.” He said as he took my hand.
“But I’m still changing them.” He added and I didn’t argue.
We went through every room together, and the more we searched, the worse I felt.
The apartment had been disturbed, but whoever entered had been careful enough to avoid making obvious damage.
They weren’t looking for electronics. They weren’t looking for money. They were searching.
And that terrified me more than theft would have.
