I woke before the alarm, and for a few seconds, I stayed still while the early morning light barely touched

the curtains.

Jace was asleep beside me, and his breathing was slow and steady, which made me smile because he had barely slept the night before.

I carefully slipped out of bed, grabbed some clothes, and headed into the bathroom.

I showered, brushed my teeth, and pulled my hair into a loose ponytail before getting dressed in jeans and a clean Lawson Customs shirt.

When I returned to the bedroom, Jace was still asleep, so I quietly closed the door behind me and headed downstairs.

The clubhouse was unusually quiet.

Most mornings, someone was already moving around the kitchen, but today there wasn’t a sound.

I started the coffee maker, pulled some bacon from the refrigerator, and cracked eggs into a bowl.

While the bacon cooked, I toasted some bread and sliced fruit, because I figured everyone would eventually wake up hungry.

Jace appeared about fifteen minutes later, and he was still rubbing sleep from his eyes.

“You didn’t wake me.” He said.

“You looked exhausted.” I said and he walked over and kissed my cheek.

“I am.” He said.

“Then sit down.” I said and he smiled.

“You’re bossy in the morning.” He said.

“You like it.” I said.

“I do.” He said.

He sat at the table while I brought breakfast over.

We ate together, and for a few minutes, the morning felt completely normal.

“You sleep okay?” I asked.

“Eventually.” He said as I looked at him.

“You were thinking about the device.” I said.

“Yeah.” He said and I sighed.

“I keep thinking about how long it could have been there.” I said.

“We’re fixing that today.” He said and I nodded.

“I know.” I said.

“We’re not letting anyone get that close again.” He said and I squeezed his fingers.

“Good.” I said.

After breakfast, we headed to Lawson Customs, and I immediately noticed several club members already waiting outside.

Derek stood beside one of the vehicles with a folder in his hand, while Ethan was unloading equipment from his truck and Mia walked toward us.

“Everyone’s here.” She said as Jace nodded.

“Let’s get started.” Jace said.

We gathered inside the office, and Derek placed the folder on my desk.

“The device has been removed, and Ethan has finished examining the recordings.” Derek said as I looked

at Ethan.

“Anything important?” I asked.

“Not from what we recovered. Most of the recordings were routine conversations, and there was nothing that gave them club information.” Ethan said and I felt rélieved.

“That’s good.” I said.

“It is. But the bigger issue is how they got it inside. So we’re changing procedures.” Derek agreed as he opened the folder and Ben leaned against the doorway.

“How much?” Ben asked as Derek looked at him.

“Enough that you’re going to complain.” Derek said and Ben laughed.

“That’s reassuring.” Ben said.

“Nobody enters the office without someone else knowing.” Derek said and Mia nodded.

“Fine.” Mia said.

“All exterior doors stay locked when we’re closed, and everyone checks the doors before leaving.” Derek said and I nodded.

“What about visitors?” I asked.

“Visitors sign in.” He said and Ben raised his eyebrows.

“We’re running a garage, not a government facility.” Ben said and Derek gave him a look.

“Do you want another listening device beneath your desk?” Derek asked and Ben immediately shook his
