Summary for Chapter 206: Ride With Me (Paige and Jace)

Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 206

CHAPTER 120-2

“Don’t give Derek ideas. Jace said and Derek smiled.

“I’m already thinking about it.” Derek said.

Everyone laughed, and the tension in the room finally eased.

That was exactly what I needed. I didn’t want fear to become the permanent atmosphere at Lawson Customs. I wanted to work. I wanted to laugh.

I wanted to walk through the front door without wondering whether sorneone had been waiting outside.

The new cameras took most of the morning to install and Ethan worked alongside another technician while Ben helped run cables through the ceiling.

Mia reorganized the office, and I went through the paperwork that had been left on my desk.

Every so often, I glanced toward the new camera above the door.

It felt strange knowing it was there, but it also made me feel safer.

By lunchtime, everything was operational and Ethan pulled up the security system on the office computer.

“You’ve got full coverage now.” Ethan said as I looked at the screens.

The parking lot appeared on one monitor, while another showed the rear entrance and the workshop had two cameras, and the office had another.

“That’s impressive.” I said and Ethan smiled.

“You’ll get alerts if anyone enters after closing.” He said and Jace nodded.

“Good.” Jace said.

Derek checked the locks before leaving the office.

“Nobody leaves alone tonight.” Derek said as I looked at him.

“You’re making it sound like we’re under siege.” I said.

“We might be.” He said as Jace glanced at me.

“He’s right.” Jace said and I sighed.

“I know.” I said.

The afternoon became busy, which I appreciated because working gave me something else to think about.

A customer brought in an old Ford that needed engine work, another customer came to discuss a motorcycle restoration, and Oliver Hayes called to ask about another project.

The garage was thriving. Even with everything happening around us, people still trusted Lawson Customs.

That meant something.

Around three, Ben walked into the office carrying a box of parts.

“I’ve got something for you.” Ben said as looked inside.

“What’s this?” I asked.

“New locks.” He said as I stared at him.

“Already?” I asked.

“Jace ordered them.” He said.

I looked toward Jace, who was standing near the workshop.

“You didn’t tell me.” I said.

“I knew you’d complain.” Jace said.

“I wouldn’t complain.” I said and Ben laughed.

“You absolutely would.” Ben said as I shook my head.

“Maybe a little.” I said and Jace smiled.

“Exactly.” He said.

The day continued without incident, and by closing time, I realized I had almost forgotten about the person who had planted the device.

Almost.

We locked the doors together, checked the cameras, and made sure every vehicle was secured and Jace walked beside me toward the office.

“You okay?” He asked and I nodded.

“Better.” I said.

“Good.” He said.

“I think having everything secured helps.” I said.

“It should.” He said and I looked at him.

“Thank you.” I said and he smiled.

“You don’t have to thank me.” He said.

“I know.” I said as I leaned against him.

“But I want to.” I added and he kissed me.

“I’ll always protect you.” He said and I smiled.

I always protect you too.” I said.

We were about to leave when my phone rang and I looked at the screen.

Sarah Collins.

She hadn’t called me directly in several days, and given everything that had happened lately, an unexpected call from Sarah was never something I could ignore.

“Sarah?” I answered.

There was silence for a moment and then she spoke.

“Paige, are you somewhere private?” She asked as I glanced at Jace.

“I’m with Jace.” I said.

“Good.” She said as her voice sounded tense.

“What happened?” I asked.

“I’ve just received information that I think you need to hear.” She said.

“What kind of information?” I asked and Sarah paused again.

“It’s about the person who planted that listening device.” She said as my heart started beating faster.

“You found them?” I asked.

“Not exactly.” She said as Jace moved closer.

“What does that mean?” I asked as Sarah’s voice lowered.

“We recovered something from another investigation, and your name was mentioned.” She said.

“My name?” I asked.
