Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 211
.
CHAPTER 123-1
Paige’s POV
Claim
The news reached Lawson Customs before the first customer had even arrived, and by the time I walked into the office, Mia was already standing behind the desk with her phone in her hand. Her face told me something was wrong.
“What happened?” I asked and she looked at me for a moment before answering.
“Travis Cole was found dead last night.” Mia said and I stopped walking.
“Travis?” I asked and Mia nodded.
“The police haven’t released many details, but everyone is saying it was murder.” She said and my stomach tightened.
I knew that name. I knew the fingerprint and I knew Sarah had been investigating him, and I knew Victor had been furious about the police getting closer.
I didn’t need anyone to explain what that probably meant.
“Jace knows?” I asked.
“He called about ten minutes ago.” She said.
I pulled my phone from my pocket, and I saw three missed calls from him so I called back immediately.
“Paige.” He answered.
“I’m at the garage.” I said.
“I know.” He said.
There was something in his voice that made me grip the phone tighter.
“Mia told me about Travis.” I said.
“I was going to tell you myself.” He said.
“Was it Victor?” I asked.
“I don’t know.” He said.
“But you think it was.” I said and there was a pause.
“Yes.” He said as I closed my eyes.
Another person was dead because this war had gotten too close to everyone.
“What are we going to do?” I asked.
“We’re going to be careful.” He said.

Jace” I said.
I know what you’re thinking.” He said.
“Do you?” I asked.
“You’re wondering whether we should close the garage.” He said and I looked around the office.
“I was.” I said.
“We aren’t.” He said.
“Why?” I asked.
“Because that’s exactly what they want.” He said so I didn’t answer.
“We keep working, Paige, but we increase security and we stay together.” He said.
I nodded even though he couldn’t see me.
“Okay.” I said.
“I’ll come by soon.” He said.
The call ended, and I lowered my phone as Mia watched me.
“What did he say?” She asked.
“We’re staying open.” I said and she nodded.
“I think that’s probably for the best.” She said and I tried to smile.
“Me too.” I said.
The garage became strangely quiet that morning, because even though customers came and went, everyone seemed to be talking about Travis.

People had heard about the Black Reapers. They had heard about the Iron Vipers. They had heard about the fires, the break-ins, and the increasing violence.
Now someone was dead and the war was no longer something people whispered about in bars or read about online.
It had become a body. It had become a funeral.
And it had become another reminder that people could get hurt even when they weren’t standing in the middle of the fight.
Around lunchtime, Jace arrived with Derek and Mason and Jace walked straight toward me.
“How are you?” He asked as I looked at him.
“I don’t know.” I said as he pulled me into his arms so I rested my forehead against his chest.
“I keep thinking about that fingerprint.” I added.

Hknow.” He said..
If Sarah hadn’t found it, maybe Travis would still be alive.” I said.
“Maybe.” He said and pulled back.
