Summary for Chapter 216: Ride With Me (Paige and Jace)

Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 216

CHAPTER 125-2

“Charlotte, you need to understand something.” I said but she didn’t answer.

“When people become unpredictable, they stop being useful. I added as she looked back at me.

“And what happens to people who stop being useful?” She asked as I held her gaze.

“They stop being part of the plan.” I said.

I left before she could answer. I didn’t need to threaten her directly.

Fear was much more effective when people created the worst possibilities themselves.

Outside, I climbed onto my motorcycle and rode back toward the clubhouse.

The evening traffic was heavy, but I barely noticed it.

Charlotte had become a problem. She was emotional, angry, and frightened, and those were three things I didn’t tolerate in people who knew too much.

By the time I reached the clubhouse, Damien was waiting and he looked at me.

“How did it go?” Damien asked.

“She’s scared.” I said.

“Good. She should be.” He said as I removed my helmet:

“You think she’ll talk?” Damien asked.

“Not immediately.” I said.

“And later?” He asked as I looked toward the clubhouse.

“That depends on whether she thinks she has somewhere to go.” I said and Damien nodded slowly.

“Paige won’t take her.” Damien said.

“Exactly.” I said.

“You think Charlotte knows that?” He asked.

“She will.” I said as I walked inside.

The clubhouse was loud again, but I wasn’t interested in drinking or playing cards.

I headed straight toward my office.

There were documents stacked across my desk, including financial records, property information, and several files relating to the Iron Vipers.

I locked the office door behind me and nobody entered without permission. Nobody. Or at least, that’s what I believed.

Aeross town, Charlotte sat alone at the kitchen table. She stared at the untouched coffee for nearly twenty minutes, because her hands were still shaking.

Victor’s words kept repeating in her mind.

You were useful.

Now you’ve become a liability.

She had spent so long believing she could control the situation. She had thought she could use Victor to hurt Paige, and then she could walk away whenever she wanted.

Now she understood that she had never been in control.

Victor had allowed her to believe she was and that realization terrified her.

She stood and walked into the bedroom where she opened the closet and pulled out a small bag.

She packed some clothes, toiletries, cash, and a spare phone. Then she stopped.

Where could she go?

Her family wouldn’t understand. Paige didn’t trust her. The police would ask questions. And Victor would find her.

She sat on the edge of the bed. There had to be something she could use. Something that could protect

her.

Her eyes moved toward the hallway. Victor’s office.

She knew he kept important documents there and she had seen files moved in and out over the past few weeks, and she had occasionally noticed names connected to the Iron Vipers.

If she could find proof of what Victor was doing, perhaps the police would protect her.

Perhaps Paige would believe her. Perhaps she could finally escape. The thought frightened her, but remaining silent frightened her more.

Later that night, Charlotte waited until Victor left the house again, She watched his motorcycle disappear down the street, and then she waited another ten minutes.

She grabbed her keys and she drove to the clubhouse.

The building was still active, but she knew the back entrance.

She had used it before and she slipped inside and moved quietly through the hallway.

Her heart hammered against her ribs. She reached Victor’s office and checked the corridor. Nobody was there.

She unlocked the door with the key she still had and the room was dark. She switched on the desk lamp. Files covered the desk and she opened the first folder.

Names. Dates. Payments. Locations.

Her breathing became shallow and she opened another. There were photographs. Reports and information about the Iron Vipers.

There was even a file containing photographs of Lawson Customs and Charlotte stared at them.

Victor had been watching Paige far more closely than she realized and she quickly pulled out her phone.

She photographed the documents one by one, and then she opened another folder and her hands began shaking.

There were records showing payments to people she recognized. There were references to the fires. There were notes about surveillance.

Then she found something that made her blood run cold.
