Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 233

CHAPTER 134-2

“I don’t know.” She said.

“But you think it’s possible.” I said.

“I think corruption is possible. I’ve spent enough time around these cases to know when something doesn’t add up.” She said as her voice was quiet and Jace looked at her.

“Why tell us?” Jace asked.

“Because you may already be connected to whatever they’re trying to erase.” She said and I stared at her.

“Because of Uncle Will?” I asked.

“Possibly.” She said.

Sarah reached into her bag and pulled out a small notebook.

“I’ve been comparing dates.” She said as she opened it.

“The warehouse fire you told me about happened during the same period as several investigations involving the Black Reapers.” She added as Jace looked at me and I nodded slowly.

“We knew there was a connection.” I said as Sarah continued.

“What you don’t know is that one of those investigations was closed unusually quickly.” She said.

“Why?” I asked.

“I don’t know.” She said.

“Who was investigating it?” I asked and Sarah shook her head.

“That’s one of the things I’m trying to find out.” She said and Jace’s expression hardened.

“Could Victor have someone inside the department?” Jace asked.

“Maybe. But I can’t prove that.” She said as Sarah closed the notebook.

“Are you saying someone is protecting him?” I asked.

“I’m saying I don’t trust everyone who has access to those files.” She said and I felt uneasy.

“What happens if you find out who is responsible?” I asked as Sarah looked at me.

“Then I’ll do my job.” She said.

She didn’t say anything more because I understood what she meant.

She wasn’t promising to protect us, and she wasn’t promising to ignore anything she discovered about the Iron Vipers.

She was simply telling us that something was wrong and she was looking for the truth.

“Why are you helping us?” I asked and Sarah’s expression softened slightly.

“Because I’ve seen what happens when people stop asking questions. And because I think someone is trying to turn two clubs against each other while they clean up something much older.” She said and Jace nodded slowly.

“That makes sense.” Jace said as Sarah looked at him.

“Don’t mistake my cooperation for friendship.” She said.

“I don’t.” Jace said.

“I’m still a police officer.” She said.

“I know.” He said.

“And if I find evidence that one of your people committed a crime, I’ll act on it.” She said as Jace nodded.

“That’s fair.” Jace said as Sarah looked at me.

“Keep the journals secure.” Sarah said and I nodded.

“They’re locked away.” I said.

“Good.” She said and she stood.

“Don’t tell anyone about this meeting.” She said.

“I won’t.” I said and she looked at Jace.

“Neither of you should.” She said as Jace nodded.

Sarah walked toward the door, but before she left, she turned back.

“Paige.” She said as I looked at her.

“If someone is deleting old evidence, they’re doing it because they’re afraid someone will find it.” She added.

“Find what?” I asked as she shook her head.

“That’s what I haven’t figured out.” She said and then she left.

I sat there for several seconds and Jace finally spoke.

“We need to tell the others.” He said.

“Not everyone.” I said as he looked at me.

“Who?” He asked.

“Ethan, Derek, and maybe Mason.” I said and he nodded.

“Agreed.” He said.

We returned to the clubhouse, and I immediately told Jace everything again while we walked through the

wanted to make sure we’d both understood Sarah correctly. The missing evidence. The old investigations. The possibility of corruption. The warehouse fire. The five years missing from Uncle Will’s journals.

None of it seemed separate anymore and it felt like pieces of one enormous puzzle and Jace rubbed the back of his neck.

“We need Ethan to check our records.” Jace sald

“Our business records?” I asked.

“Everything.” He said and I frowned.

“Why?” I asked.

“If someone is trying to erase evidence, they may also be watching where money moves.” He said.

That thought made me uncomfortable and Ethan was already in the clubhouse office when we arrived.

“What’s going on?” Ethan asked.

Jace explained enough for him to understand and Ethan immediately opened the club’s accounting system.

“I’ll check for anything unusual.” Jace said and Derek joined us shortly afterward.

The office became quiet as Ethan worked.

Minutes passed and then he stopped and I noticed immediately.

“What?” I asked as he looked at the screen again.

“I’m not sure.” He said.

“Tell us.” I said so Ethan pulled up several transactions.

“There are withdrawals here that don’t match the usual pattern.” Ethan said and Jace stepped closer.

“How much?” I asked.

“Not huge amounts.” He said.
