Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 240
CHAPTER 138-1
Charlotte’s POV
I could still hear my father’s voice in my head when I pulled into the parking lot outside Victor’s building.
Maybe I finally started seeing things clearly.
The words had followed me all afternoon, because I couldn’t stop thinking about the way he’d looked at
Paige.
Proud.
He had actually looked proud of her.
I gripped the steering wheel until my knuckles hurt and I stared at the dark windows of the building ahead.
I had made a mistake. I knew that now. The problem was that I wasn’t sure which mistake had been the
worst.
Trusting Victor had been one. Believing he would protect me had been another. And believing I could control any of this had probably been the biggest mistake of them all.
I grabbed my phone and purse, then stepped out of the car.
The night air was cold, and I hurried toward the entrance while constantly checking behind me.
Nobody followed me. At least, nobody I could see.
The guard at the door recognized me, and he stepped aside without asking questions.
I walked upstairs, because I already knew where Victor would be. His office door was closed so I knocked
once.
“Come in.” Victor said so I opened the door.
Victor was sitting behind his desk, and several folders were spread across the surface as he looked up.
“Charlotte.” He said.
“I need to talk to you.” I said and his expression barely changed.
“Then talk.” He said.
“I need more protection.” I said as Victor stared at me.
“Protection from what?” He asked.
“From Paige.” I said and he laughed and the sound made my stomach turn.
“You came here because you’re afraid of Paige?” He asked.
“I’m afraid of what she’s becoming involved in.” I said.
CHAPTER 124
“You’re the one who became involved. I need somewhere safe.” He said and Victor leaned back in his Chair.
“You have somewhere safe. He said.
“My house doesn’t feel safe.” I said.
“Then move.” He said.
“I can’t just disappear.” I said and he smiled.
“Why not?” He asked.
“Because people would notice.” I said.
Claim
“People already notice you.” He said as his tone had changed. It was colder now so I stepped closer to the desk.
“You said you’d protect me.” I said and Victor laughed again.
“I said what I needed to say.” He said as I stared at him.
“What does that mean?” I asked.
“It means you were useful.” He said and my heart dropped.,
“I helped you.” I said.
“You did.” He said.
“I gave you information.” I said.
“You did that too.” He said.
“I gave you access to Paige.” I said and Victor’s eyes hardened.
“And now you’ve become a problem.” He said as I felt my fingers tighten around my phone.
“What?” I asked.
“You heard me.” He said.
“You said I’d be protected.” I said.
“I changed my mind.” He said and I swallowed.
“You can’t do that.” I said as Victor smiled.
“I can do whatever I want.” He said as I looked toward the door and he noticed.
“You aren’t leaving yet.” He said.
“I just need to understand.” I said.
“You don’t need to understand anything.” He said.
CHAPTER 120
His voice was calm, but that somehow made it worse.
“You’ve made mistakes.” He said.
