Summary for Chapter 250: Ride With Me (Paige and Jace)

Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 250

CHAPTER 144-1

Paige’s POV

I woke before the alarm, and for several seconds I stared at the ceiling while the memory of gunfire came rushing back.

The shattered window, the damaged motorcycles, Charlotte clutching her phone, and Jace shouting for everyone to stay down all came back at once, but I forced myself to breathe because lying in bed and replaying the attack would not change what had happened.

Lawson Customs had been attacked.

Nobody had died. The building was still standing and that was enough for me to get up.

I slipped out of bed quietly, showered, brushed my teeth, and pulled on a pair of jeans with one of my old Lawson Customs shirts before heading downstairs.

Jace was already in the kitchen and he looked up from his coffee.

“You’re not going to tell me you are opening the garage today.” He said.

“I am opening the garage today.” I said and he sighed as he leaned against the counter.

“Paige.” He said.

“We closed yesterday because we were attacked, and I am not letting Victor decide when we open again.” I said.

“You need to rest.” He said.

“I can rest after work.” I said as Jace stared at me for several seconds before shaking his head.

“You are impossible.” He said.

“I have been told that before.” I said.

He poured me a cup of coffee, and I accepted it before grabbing a piece of toast.

“We have police reports to finish, insurance people to deal with, and repairs to organize. The longer we leave the garage closed, the more Victor gets exactly what he wants.” I said and Jace took a drink of coffee.

“You are right.” He said.

“I know.” I said.

“But I am still going with you.” He said and I smiled.

“I expected that.” I said.

We reached Lawson Customs shortly after sunrise, and the damage looked worse in daylight.

The broken workshop window left an ugly opening in the front wall, glass still scattered across the

eoncrete despite the cleanup we had done after the police left.

Several motorcycles had been damaged, one section of fencing had been torn apart, and bullet marks remained visible across the wall.

I stood in the middle of the workshop and looked around.

“This is going to take time.” I said as Jase came beside me.

“It will.” He said.

I picked up a piece of broken glass and dropped it into a bucket.

“Then we start.” I said.

Ben arrived a few minutes later carrying coffee and a box of supplies.

“I brought breakfast.” Ben said as Mia followed him with another box.

Clam

“I brought cleaning supplies, because apparently we are rebuilding a garage before breakfast.” Mia said and I looked at both of them.

“You came.” I said as Ben stared at me.

“Did you honestly think you were doing this alone?” Ben asked and Mia smiled.

“You should know better.” Mia said.

outside.

Diesel wandered between us, checking every person as if he had been assigned security duties.

“You have a very serious supervisor.” Mia said as I looked down at him.

“He has been promoted.” I said and Ben laughed.

“Does he get paid?” Ben asked.

“He gets steak.” I said.

“That is better than what I get.” Ben said.

“You also get a paycheck.” I said and Ben considered that.

“Then I suppose I will stay.” He said.

The first customer arrived before nine.

I looked up when the familiar pickup pulled into the parking lot, and I expected the driver to turn around when he saw the damage.

Instead, George Miller climbed out carrying a cardboard tray of coffees.

“I heard you were reopening.” George said as I walked outside.

“We are.” I said as he held out the fray.

Then I figured you could use these.” He said and I stared at him.

“George, you didn’t have to do that.” I said.

“I know.” He said and he smiled.

“That is why I did it.” He added.

Ciam

I took the coffees, and before I could thank him properly, another truck pulled into the lot. Then another.

CHAPTER 144-2

Within half an hour, the parking area was filling with customers.

Some came for scheduled work, while others simply wanted to check on us.

One man walked through the broken entrance and shook his head.

“I heard what happened.” He said.

“So did everyone else, apparently.” I said and he smiled.

“I still need my bike serviced.” He said and I laughed softly.

“That can be arranged.” I said as another customer stepped forward.

“My brother told me you were the best mechanic in town, and after what happened here, I figured he was probably right.” He said as Ben looked at me.

“Your reputation survived the bullets.” Ben said.

“Apparently.” I said and Mia started laughing.

“People are going to be talking about this place for months.” She said.

I looked around the garage, and something inside me settled. This was what normal looked like.

It was not perfect. It was not untouched. But it was people showing up anyway.

Ben and Mia spent most of the morning replacing the broken window frame while I worked on a motorcycle that had been booked before the attack

The sound of tools filled the workshop again, and slowly, the place began feeling like itself.

Outside, Jace and the others repaired the fencing.

Every few minutes, I heard someone call for a tool or ask for a measurement, and ordinary conversation slowly replaced the memory of gunfire.

Around noon, Mia walked inside carrying a sandwich.

“You need to eat.” Mia said.

“I am working.” I said.

“So am I, and I still managed to eat.” She said as she placed the sandwich beside me.

“You have five minutes.” She added as I looked at her.

“You sound like my mother.” I said.

“Then your mother must be smart.” She said as I smiled and picked up the sandwich.

“I suppose she is. Sometimes.” I said as Mia leaned against the workbench.

“How are you really doing?” She asked as I took a bite before answering.

“I am angry.” I said.

“At Charlotte?” She asked.

Claim

“At Victor, at Charlotte, at myself for letting this happen here, and mostly at the fact that I am scared.” I said and Mia nodded.

“Being scared does not mean you have to stop. She said.

“I know.” I said and she smiled.

“Then keep going.” She said as I looked around the workshop again.

“I will.” I said.

By mid-afternoon, the replacement window was secured, although the new glass would not arrive until the following day.

The damaged motorcycles had been moved into safer positions, and the fencing had been repaired enough to secure the property.

Jace walked inside with dirt on his hands and sweat across his forehead.

“The fence is standing.” Jace said as I looked outside.

“It looks better.” I said.

“It will need another section replaced later.” He said.

“Then we will replace it.” I said and he nodded.

“How many customers?” He asked and Mia looked at the appointment book.

“Seven completed jobs, four new bookings, and three people asking about restoration work.” Mia said as Jace looked at me.

“Still think reopening was a bad idea?” He asked.

“I never thought it was a bad idea.” I said and he smiled.

“You are exhausting.” He said.

“That’s why you love me.” I said.

“I do.” He said as he stepped closer and kissed my forehead.

“And I would make the same decision.” He added.

The rest of the afternoon passed without incident, and by closing time, I stood outside the workshop while the sun lowered behind the trees.

The garage was bruised, but it was alive. Cars still came through the lot, customers still asked questions, tools still covered the benches, and Diesel still followed me everywhere.
