“Take Ethan with you said and they both nodded.

As they walked away, my phone vibrated.

Paige.

I answered.

“Hey.” I answered.

“Everything okay?” She asked as I looked around the room.

“Not exactly.” I said.

“What happened?” She asked.

“Someone accessed one of the business accounts again.” I said and she was silent for a moment.

“Charlotte?” She asked.

“No.” I said.

“Are you sure?” She asked.

“Ethan is sure, and the evidence supports him.” I said and Paige exhaled.

“So there really is someone else.” She said.

“Yeah.” I said and she didn’t say anything for several/seconds.

“Jace, be careful.” She said.

“I will.” I said.

“You promise?” She asked.

“I promise.” I said.

We ended the call, and I stared at the phone for a moment before putting it away.

I wanted to tell Paige that everything was under control, but I wasn’t going to lie to her.

It wasn’t under control. Not yet.

An hour later, Ethan and Owen returned from checking the business office.

“We found something.” Ethan said and I looked up.

“What?” I asked.

“The security footage.” Ethan said as he placed a tablet on the table.

“The account activity happened remotely, but we found someone entering the business office earlier that

evening.” He continued as Owen pressed play.

The footage showed the office hallway, then the front entrance, and finally a man walking into the building.

He wasn’t wearing anything unusual, but didn’t recognize him.

He stopped near the reception desk, looked around, and disappeared down the hallway.

“Who is that?” Mason asked.

“We don’t know.” Owen said as Ethan paused the footage and zoomed in.

The man’s face became clearer. I stared at the screen.

He wasn’t a Black Reaper. He, wasn’t one of ours. He wasn’t anyone I had seen around the businesses.

“Can you identify him?” I asked.

“Not yet.” Owen said as Ethan enhanced the image again.

The man’s face sharpened just enough for us to see his features and Owen suddenly leaned closer.

“Wait.” Owen said.

“What?” I asked.

“I’ve seen him before.” Owen said and my eyes moved toward him.
