Jace’s POV

The call from Derek came before breakfast, and the moment ! heard his voice, I knew the quiet we had enjoyed after dinner was already gone.

“We lost him.” Derek said as I stood from the kitchen table.

“What happened?” I asked.

“Security team spotted the vehicle near the Lawson mansion shortly after Paige left, but the driver saw us coming and took off.” Derek said.

“Did you get the plate?” I asked.

“We got the plate, but it was fake.” He said.

I glanced toward Paige, who was still upstairs getting ready for work.

“Did anyone see the photographer?” I asked.

“Yes, but only briefly, and by the time we reached the vehicle, it was abandoned.” He said.

“Where?” I asked.

“Two streets from the mansion.” He said and I tightened my grip on the phone.

“Any cameras?” I asked.

“Several, but the person knew where they were positioned, and he stayed out of clear view.” He said and then Derek paused.

“We recovered the camera bag.” He added and my eyes narrowed.

“Anything useful?” I asked.

“Nothing that gives us a name.” He said.

“Keep searching.” I said.

“I already have everyone looking.” He said.

The call ended, and I remained standing beside the table.

Something about this bothered me more than the photographer simply getting away. Someone had known Paige was leaving the Lawson mansion.

Someone had known where she would be.

That information had not been public and I heard footsteps on the stairs, and Paige walked into the kitchen wearing her work clothes.

“You look worried.” She said.

“We had someone watching your parents’ house last night.” I admitted and her expression changed.

The photographer?” I asked.

“Derek lost him.” I said and she walked toward me.

“Did they catch the vehicle?” She asked.

“They found it abandoned, but the plate was fake.” I said as Paige sighed.

“I suppose that means we are back to guessing.” She said.

“Not exactly.” I said as I looked toward the doorway as Ethan entered.

He was carrying his laptop and looked like he had barely slept.

“Sarah is on her way.” He said as Paige looked at him.

“Why?” I asked.

“She wants to talk to us.” Ethan said.

That was enough to make me suspicious and twenty minutes later, Sarah arrived at the clubhouse.

She placed a folder on the table and opened it.

“The vehicle used by the photographer was reported stolen yesterday afternoon.” She said and Paige frowned.

“Yesterday?” Paige asked as Sarah nodded.

“It was taken from a parking lot several hours before your dinner.” Sarah said.

“Was the owner connected to Victor?” I asked.

“No.” She said and she pulled out another photograph.

“So whoever stole it planned this.” Ethan said.

“That’s what I believe.” Sarah said as I leaned against the table.
