Ride With Me novel Paige and Jace by Kylie K Chapter 334
CHAPTER 186-1
Charlotte’s hand remained around my arm as we watched the man disappear into the crowd, and something cold settled in my stomach because there was no reason for him to photograph my father unless he wanted information about him.
“Stay here.” I told Charlotte, and I handed my clipboard to her.
“Paige, what are you going to do?” She asked.
“I’m going to find Derek.” I said.
I turned toward the parking lot, but Derek was already moving.
He had been standing near the edge of the event, watching the crowd while pretending to listen to Mason’s conversation, and the second Charlotte pointed toward the street, he followed her line of sight.
Derek’s expression changed immediately.
He touched the radio clipped to his vest and said something quietly before moving through the crowd.
I followed for several steps, but Jace caught my hand.
“Let him handle it.” Jace said.
“I want to know who that man is.” I said.
“So do I, but running after him yourself won’t help.” He said.
I stopped reluctantly, although every instinct told me to keep moving.
Derek disappeared around the side of the building, and seconds later, I heard the sound of an engine revving and Charlotte looked at me.
“That’s him.” Charlotte said as Jace turned toward the street.
Derek came running around the corner just as a motorcycle pulled away from the curb.
“Stop!” Derek shouted.
The rider accelerated, and Derek sprinted toward the road before stopping when the motorcycle cut between two vehicles and disappeared around the corner.
He returned a moment later, breathing heavily and looking frustrated.
“I almost had him.” Derek said.
“Did you get a look at his face?” Jace asked.
“Enough to know he was watching Charles, but not enough for an identification.” Derem said as Charlotte stepped closer.
“I saw him take the photograph.” Charlotte said as Derek nodded.
CHAPTER 1G-
“Did you notice anything else?” Derek asked.
He had a Black Reapers patch on the back of his jacket.” Charlotte said.
The words made the small group around us go quiet and Jace’s jaw tightened.
“Another one.” Jace said as Derek nodded.
“That’s what I think.” Derek said.
Charles had been standing nearby, and I watched his face change as he heard the conversation.
He looked toward the road where the motorcycle had vanished.
“That man was watching me?” Charles asked as I nodded.
“Charlotte saw him photographing you.” I said and Charles looked genuinely shaken.
For the first time, I think he understood that the danger surrounding us wasn’t something happening somewhere else, and it wasn’t simply a problem belonging to the Iron Vipers.
It had reached him.
“I thought the threats were aimed at Paige.” He said quietly.
“They were. But Victor has already changed targets before.” Jace replied as Charles looked at me.
“And now he’s watching my family.” Charles said.
The way he said family made something tighten in my chest.
For years, I had wanted him to see me as his daughter, and now that he finally did, I hated that the reason had come with danger attached to it.
“We will protect you.” Jace said as Charles looked at him.
“I know you have been protecting Paige, but I don’t want my problems becoming your responsibility.” Charles said as Jace shook his head.
“Your problems became ours when you became part of Paige’s life again.” Jace said…
Charles looked at him for several seconds before nodding.
“Thank you.” Charles said as his voice was quieter than I had ever heard it.
“Thank you for protecting my daughter, and thank you for protecting Charlotte and Victoria too.” He added as Jace glanced at me before answering.
