Jace’s POV

The call came just after sunrise.

I was sitting at the clubhouse kitchen table with Paige when my phone vibrated, and the number

on the screen was one I didn’t recognize so I answered immediately.

“Jace speaking.” I said and a young male voice came through.

“My name is Tyler.” He said and I exchanged a look with Paige.

“Tyler who?” I asked.

“I’m with the Black Reapers.” He said and Paige’s expression changed.

“Where are you?” I asked.

“I’m near the old railway bridge.” He said.

“Are you alone?” I asked.

“Yes.” He said.

“Did anyone follow you?” I asked.

“No.” He said and there was a pause.

“I want out.” He added and I leaned back in my chair.

“Then you called the right person, but I need to know why.” I said.

“I have information.” He said.

“What kind?” I asked.

“Locations.” He said and my attention sharpened.

“Black Reaper locations?” I asked.

“Yes.” He said.

“How many?” I asked.

“Several.” He said.

“Then tell me where you’re staying, and we will come to you.” I said.

“I need protection.” He said.

“You will have it if the information checks out.” I said and the call ended and Paige looked at me.

“Another defector?” Paige asked.

“Yes.” I said and she sighed.

“Victor is losing control.” She said.

“That’s what it looks like.” I said.

“Do you trust him?” She asked.

“No.” I said and she smiled faintly.

“At least you’re honest.” I said.

“We verify everything.” He said.

Within twenty minutes, Derek, Ethan, Mason, and two other members were ready.

We drove to the railway bridge and found Tyler waiting beneath the concrete structure.

He looked barely twenty-five, and his Black Reapers vest was folded under one arm.

When he saw us, he raised both hands.

“I’m not armed.” He said and Derek approached first and searched him carefully.

He found a phone, wallet, keys, and a small folding knife so Derek secured the knife.

“You said you have information.” I said and Tyler nodded.

“I do.” He said.

“What do you have?” I asked as Tyler looked toward the road.

“Maps.” He said.

He reached inside his jacket and removed a folded collection of papers so Derek took them and

Ethan opened the first sheet.

My attention immediately shifted. The maps showed several properties across the county.

Warehouses. Storage yards. Small businesses. A rural property outside town. And several

buildings I didn’t recognize.

“Where did you get these?” I asked.

“Victor’s office.” He said.

“You stole them?” I asked.

“I copied them first.” He said.

“Why?” I asked.

“Because I knew I was going to need a way out.” He said as Ethan studied the maps.

“These are detailed.” Ethan said as Tyler nodded.

“Victor kept everything.” Tyler said.

“Security?” Ethan asked.

“Some locations have cameras, but most are only watched by members.” Tyler said.
